Students on this IES program have the distinctive opportunity to directly enroll (through IES program facilitation) in Oxford University, St. Catherine's College, just 60 miles from London. St. Catherine's College is one of the 38 self-governing colleges that together make up the University of Oxford. Oxford has a total student population of more than 21,000.
Like all Oxford colleges, St. Catherine's utilizes the tutorial education system. This allows you to select a highly personalized course of study, based on previous coursework at your home institution and your academic interests. You meet with a tutor on a regular basis, either alone or with another student, to discuss the written work produced for each meeting. These tutorials are supplemented by lectures.
Oxford will be your classroom. Enjoy the vibrant intellectual and social life that Oxford has to offer. Explore the city's stone buildings and classic cloistered colleges that are integrated into the fabric of the town center.
Note that the spring semester is longer than the fall semester, as is the case for many European universities - at Oxford, in fact, it is the equivalent of two terms, with more courses required than in the fall semester. The Oxford spring semester runs from early January through mid-June.
In the Knox internal application system, this means that students have two different IES Oxford SPRING options, with different pricing structures: students may choose the IES Oxford Spring Semester (and thus 4.5 Knox credits will transfer and 50% of the student's aid will travel) or students may choose the IES Oxford winter & spring term option (in which case 6 credits will come back and 2/3 of aid will travel but the tuition will be two terms worth, of course). The spring term and the winter term + spring term options are in the Terra Dotta (studyabroad.knox.edu).
Prerequisite: GPA 3.85. Credit: Fall Semester - 4.5 Knox credits; Spring Semester - 4.5 OR 6 Knox credits; or Year - either 9 or 10.5.
