All modern languages and literatures majors complete a senior capstone or Honors research project as the culmination of their primary field of study. Here are a few of the Honors projects that our students recently completed:
"Affective and Phonological Impediments in Communication between Francophones from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Native English Speakers" Lyana Sun Han Chang ‘15.
"Second-Language Learning Motivations Among Knox College Students" Kathryn Armenta Todd ‘15.
"Crossing Worlds: Strategies in the Translation of Asterix en Hispanie, L'lle Noire, It's a Magical World, 'The Hunt', and Mafalda," Kathleen M. Easley '11.
2. Immerse yourself in a new culture.
Knox offers a variety of opportunities for you to study abroad:
Knox has three study abroad programs: Knox in Besancon, Barcelona, and Buenos Aires. Knox partners with a local university, where students take classes in literature, history, social sciences, and culture, and learn how to communicate in the local language. Students live with host families or in student residences.
The Knox-Flensburg Exchange gives students access to all courses of study at the University of Flensburg in Germany. Students have even combined their study with an internship at the end of the semester.
Internships offer the opportunity to explore career options or other real life experiences that you would encounter after Knox. Here are a few of our students' recent internships (some found with assistance from the Bastian Family Career Center):
Citizenship Program Intern, International Institute of St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri. Elizabeth Wisdom '16, Spanish major.
Virtual Student Foreign Service Intern, U.S. State Department, Washington, D.C. Anna Meier '13, German major.
Intern, Department of State with U.S. Consulate, Strasbourg, France. Katherine E. Miller '13, French major.
