Xue “Shirley” Wu holds a master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Alabama and is currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at the same institution. She is interested in advancing the field of artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on its application to satellite data analysis for understanding complex social and environmental challenges.
Her research explores how machine learning and multimodal models can uncover patterns in large-scale geospatial datasets, enabling scalable and interpretable insights into issues such as public health disparities and infrastructure mapping. By bridging technical innovation with societal impact, she aims to leverage AI to better observe and understand our changing world from above. Guided by the belief that “education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel,” she strives to spark curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong passion for learning—especially in the rapidly evolving fields of AI and satellite data analysis.
