Comprehensive resources to help students flourish.
The TLC serves as the College’s primary resource for optimizing the educational experiences of all Knox students. Its mission is to foster a rich, collaborative, and cohesive learning environment so that students develop confidence, capacity, and purpose.
To help students flourish across their varied academic journeys, the Learning Collaborative provides comprehensive, evidence-based initiatives designed to support the distinct ways Knox students cultivate learning success, including:
Innovative Classes
To assist students with their learning and class management skills, the TLC offers a variety of pedagogically nimble courses (LCOL 101, 102, 103, 105, 120, 162, and 163) to help students optimize old learning, facilitate current learning, and experiment with a variety of proven learning strategies to discover how they learn best. Study Tables
The TLC study tables (Red Room and Red Room SMC) are an essential feature of a tutor program which has been certified by the College Reading and Learning Association at the Master’s level for more than 20 years. These peer-led tables support most 100- and 200-level courses and guide students through discipline and course specific skills and material which they can readily employ to navigate academic life.
TLC tutors come from a variety of backgrounds and majors and are trained to use their personal experiences, knowledge of subject matter, and perspectives on learning to help others succeed. They moreover know Knox, understand faculty, and have an informed sense of how classes work.
In this regard, Knox tutors are not simply knowledgeable and well trained tutors: they are kind and well-meaning resources who choose to work for the TLC not for the money or credit they receive, but for the opportunities to advance their own learning and to work in a collaborative environment with like-minded others who enjoy the simple yet profound pleasure of seeking to help others.
Access to Institutional Resources
To ensure student success, the TLC seeks to place students at the center of the College community. It routinely collaborates with faculty, staff, TRIO, Disability Support Services, and other offices across campus to introduce students to and connect them with the breadth of College support.
More information about the Learning Collaborative’s support and services for current Knox students is available within Knox’s internal portal (Knox password needed).
