Knox College has made significant progress since the Office of Sustainability was established in 2012, even through the systemic disruptions of COVID. In 2023, President McGadney reconvened the President's Council on Sustainability, now called the Sustainability Working Group (SWG).
The Sustainability Working Group consists of a group of students, faculty, and staff with the goal of collaborating on campus sustainability and resilience efforts that align with the College’s Mission and the College’s Sustainability Values.
The SWG seeks to contribute to nurturing a culture of sustainability at Knox and will work:
to assess our current operations in order to improve efficiency and coordination across campus.
to envision sustainability and resilience goals for the College that provide greater clarity and broader participation aligning with the College’s Strategic Initiatives.
to make recommendations to further institutionalize ongoing and new sustainability initiatives on campus.
to develop a Sustainability and Resilience Action plan for Knox College by Spring term 2025.
The Sustainability Working Group includes:
Bradley Nolden, General Counsel and Vice President of Administration (co-chair) Kristina Hope, Director of Sustainability Initiatives (co-chair) Peter Schwartzman, Professor of Environmental Science William Hope, Associate Professor of Anthropology and Sociology Patricia Xi, Assistant Professor of Psychology Pat Pendergast, Manager of Facilities Corey Goff, Director of Athletics Mike Alton, Manager of Dining Services Mitch McCoy, Director of Catering Emma Thompson, Executive Assistant of Administration and General Counsel Teagan Springer ’25 (Student member) Alyssa Stringer ’25 (Student member)
