Dare to Care Peer Educators

Kathryn Allee

She/Her

Major: Biochemistry

Minor: Chemistry

I'm passionate about building up communities where prevention is possible and sexual health is celebrated!

Tegan Doherty

He/Him

Major: Computer Science, Environmental Studies

I think sexual assault prevention works best as a community effort to address behaviors before they escalate, and part of this is giving people the tools and education they need to feel comfortable taking action or speaking up.

Becca Gadiel

She/Her

Major: Psychology

Minor: Philosophy, Social Service

I am looking forward to continuing to provide my community with the resources and support to live and engage with others in healthy and empowering ways, and to take control of their own relationships and well-being.

Marin Hart

She/They

Major: Gender and Women's Studies

Minor: Creative Writing

I want everyone to be able to make decisions about their sexual lives that are informed, free from ingrained social expectations, and true expressions of their identity.

Tori Johnson

She/Her

Major: Biochemistry

Minor: Neuroscience, Psychology

I think it's important to foster a supportive and inclusive community that is free of harassment and discrimination, and working with Dare to Care has been a great opportunity for me to play an active role in doing this type of work on campus.

Thao Luong

She/Her

Major: Biochemistry

Minor: French, Health Studies

I want to help normalize healthy relationships.

Marli Messner

She/Her

Major: English Literature

Minor: Spanish, Peace and Justice Studies

Education about consent, sexual assault, healthy relationships, and sex as a whole is so inconsistent, under-supported, and yet, incredibly important. Rape culture has been constructed, which means it can be dismantled; that's the core of the work to me.

Kaitlyn Pierce

She/They

Major: Public Policy, German

I believe that the most important way we can prevent sexual assault, increase sexual/gender awareness, and increase sexual health and enjoyment for people is through education and I want to be part of the movement that promotes this goal.

Jia Self

She/Her

Major: Classical Languages

Minor: Creative Writing

As I've grown in my time at Knox, I've begun to realize how important self-care is and building a support system. I want to help others become their best selves as they encounter new ideas and experiences.

Sage Yoerger

She/Her

Major: Undecided

I want people to feel comfortable with themselves and their sexualities. I think it's important that people have open converstaions, as it promotes understanding of ourselves and each other.

What Do Peer Educators Do

Dare to Care Peer Educators focus their efforts on creating meaningful, lasting change in the Knox College campus community through outreach efforts centered around education and dialogue, with the goal of equipping everyone on campus with the ability and confidence to prevent sexual assault and misconduct. They organize and host various annual events, such as the Consent and Communication Workshops for New Student Orientation, the Sex (T)ed Talks, and the Sex Ed Science Fair. In addition to these recurring events, the D2C Peer Educators also work on creating new ways to interact with their fellow peers on campus; for example, last year’s team hosted Instagram Live sessions for their Talk About it Tuesday events, and the 2021-22 team has created Dare to Care on Air, a podcast focused on discussing various topics relevant to college students’ daily lives, such as flirting, sexual education, and healthy relationships.

If you have any ideas for new events, or would like to give the D2C Peer Educators feedback on any of their existing programming, we would love to hear from you! Please reach out to us on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter @knoxdaretocare, or email us at daretocare@knox.edu.
