Over the course of 2013-2014 academic year, the Knox community embarked on a strategic planning process, Knox 2018, that imagined and engaged the future of teaching and learning at our prairie college over the next five years and beyond. In October 2014, the Board of Trustees approved the Knox 2018 plan, and the College is currently working to implement the approved strategic initiatives.
Dear Members of the Knox Community,
At the time of Knox's most recent reaccreditation in 2008, the Higher Learning Commission Report encouraged "campus and trustee leadership to utilize the results of the self-study to begin a visioning and planning process for what Knox can aspire to achieve over the next five to 10 years." Over the course of this academic year, the Knox community will embark on a strategic planning process, Knox 2018, that will imagine and engage the future of teaching and learning at our prairie college over the next five years and beyond.
While the near term financial issues are pressing and will also require broad community engagement, I believe that the development of the Knox 2018 Strategic Plan comes at an opportune moment. As we work diligently through our current fiscal challenges and navigate the broader education environment, Knox 2018 can help us identify goals and initiatives that will be central to the future success of the College. We are an extraordinary place and our educational program is exceptional, but we will need to summon all our creative energies to address the challenges ahead.
The overall purpose of Knox 2018—both its outcomes and its process—is to engage faculty, staff, students, and alumni in planning that advances the mission of Knox College and its core values:
In addition, all those involved in the process should put these principles into action as they work together:
The strategic planning exercise will be built around six questions, each of which will frame the work of a task force over a nine-month period:
As we engage these discussions here on campus, I invite and encourage all members of the Knox community—faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, and friends—to participate in Knox 2018. Explore more details about the six framing questions and share your thoughts on these areas, as well as others that you feel are relevant to the discussion.
I look forward to hearing from you and other members the Knox community as we collectively explore our future.
