The Knox College ITS User Services team maintains five public computer labs to support our students in their studies and important research work. In addition, some individual departments maintain their own specialty labs. Each lab maintains different hours; all lab hours are extended during final examination periods. Labs may be reserved for specific academic and administrative needs throughout the academic year when not in conflict with courses scheduled in the respective spaces.

Computer Lab services include:

  • Computing Assistance: Lab Assistants are on duty to assist you whenever the lab is open.
  • Printing: Black & white and color printers are available. 
  • Items Available for Checkout: Headphones are available for checkout with a valid Knox College ID.

Computer Lab Locations

Burkhardt Language Center

The Dorothy Johnson '39 and Richard Burkhardt '39 Language Center is located on the first floor of George Davis Hall (GDH). The lab contains one instruction station and 24 virtual desktop machines. There are two Work Group rooms available for faculty or students to work on individual and group multimedia projects. Both rooms have supplementary audiovisual devices and iMac workstations. A viewing room equipped with state-of-the-art multimedia equipment facilitates additional requirements of modern language learning techniques as part of the Burkhardt Language Learning Center.

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Caterpillar Classroom

Located in the lowest level of the Umbeck Science and Math Center (SMC) E-Wing, the Caterpillar Lab contains 20 Virtual Desktop CPU workstations, each equipped with a 23 -inch flat screen monitor. An instructor station is available for projection. Instructors can turn off all student monitors with one power switch. This electronic teaching classroom is equipped with projection. The layout and power of these machines makes this classroom ideal for the integration of high-end applications and/or programming into instruction.

Sparks Digital Studio

Located in the Whitcomb Art Center, the Sparks Digital Studio contains 21 3.2 GHz 6-core Intel i5, 27” iMac workstations with 16GB RAM. The scanner by the instructor station can assist students in copying film and documents in high resolution. This electronic teaching classroom is equipped with a projector and large screen. Additional power and standardization make this teaching space ideal for a variety of instructional purposes.

Stellyes Classroom

Located in the basement of the Umbeck Science and Math Center (SMC) E-Wing, the Stellyes Classroom contains 24 PC workstations and 24" flat panel monitors. An instructor station is available for data projection. Instructors can turn off all monitors with a power switch by the desk.

Founders Lab

Located in Seymour Union across from the Student Life office. The Lab is equipped with 20 Virtual Desktop PCs with 23" flat panel monitors and six  3.1 GHz 6-core Intel i5 27" iMac workstations with 16GB RAM. The lab also includes 2 high end PCs for video editing, a large screen for group work, white boards, headphones w/mic.

Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Hours may be extended to 24 hours during finals.
