Knox College students Gayoung Moon, Matt Skinner, Nana Opoku and Boram Lee spent their summer interning for the Florida-based software company DocuWrx,  founded by Eric Miller '02. 

To help eliminate the cost of housing, Gary Moses  '65 welcomed the students into his home during their internship, free of charge. The experience has helped Gayoung Moon recognize the benefits of the Knox community, beyond the campus. “Alumni networking is really important. Without it, we wouldn’t have had this amazing opportunity."

While serving as Vice President of his family’s construction firm in 2008, Miller taught himself to code in order to help the company cope with issues related to progress tracking and storing project documentation. Miller formed DocuWrx  to develop a cloud-based application for the specialty construction industry.

Miller says the Knox interns are learning how to solve real world business process problems through analysis and technology. “Knox students don’t shy away from a challenge. Don't understand a business process? They research it. Don’t know a coding language or API? They learn it. I’ve rarely, if ever, heard the phrase, ‘I can’t’ come from a Knox intern,” said Miller.

Not only does Miller hope that he can continue to provide internships to Knox students, but to provide opportunities for students when they graduate. Boram Lee, who was an economics major at Knox, is now employed with the company as a developer. So far, Lee has worked to developed billing solutions, financial reports, and a complex travel estimation calculator.
