KnoxCorps Fellows, Associates Work, Volunteer in Community

Students and recent graduates in the KnoxCorps program engage in community service at non-profit organizations.

More than a dozen Knox College students and recent graduates have started working at non-profit organizations in Galesburg, through the KnoxCorps Program.

Now in its second year, KnoxCorps was created by the College and the Galesburg Community Foundation to bring additional energy and commitment to initiatives undertaken by community-based organizations.

"I applied to KnoxCorps knowing that I wanted to pursue a graduate degree in nursing," said KnoxCorps Fellow Emma Poland '12, who has served for two years at the Knox County Health Department. "Working at the health department has really affirmed that desire. I like what I do every day and I've really enjoyed the opportunities I've had to shadow the nurses and doctors we have at the Health Center."

The program includes both KnoxCorps Fellows, recent Knox College graduates whose 10-month positions include a stipend; and KnoxCorps Associates, current Knox students who have made a two-year commitment to serve local organizations for at least eight hours per week as volunteers.

New to the program this year is a vehicle, an all-electric Nissan Leaf, donated by PNC Bank. The car will be shared by students driving to their worksites in Galesburg.
