The Xi Chapter of Beta Theta Pi at Knox College was founded in 1855, not only as the first fraternity on campus, but also the first fraternity in the state of Illinois. They hold several philanthropy events a year, most notably their "Beta Theta Pi-Looza" where they host local musicians and raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project, a foundation that serves wounded service members.

Their residential fraternity house, which was renovated in 2018, is located at 112 West South Street.
