Consider joining the Alpha Beta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega to build lasting friendships and perform service for others.

About

Alpha Phi Omega (APO) is a national co-ed service fraternity that aims to build leaders, foster friendships, and performs service all across the nation. At Knox, the Alpha Beta Gamma Chapter of APO is 70 members strong as of spring 2015. APO is unique in the way that it is open any member  of campus; any person with a desire to join is welcome.

APO is founded on three cardinal principles: leadership, friendship, and service. Through these principles, they aim to be a positive force for change on the Knox College campus. APO is not only about performing service, but fostering friendship as well. Members bond through movie nights, going to the gym together, ice breakers, crafting, BBQs, sporting events, and many other activities. A major goal of the organization is to make sure everyone has a friend.

Every two years, APO members attend national conventions to vote on fraternity policies and attend workshops to further their chapter initiatives. Together, they aim to build strong friendships and make lasting change in the local communities they are situated in.

What They Do for the Community

APO members volunteer at many community service organizations such as Blessings in a Backpack, the Humane Society, Knox Prairie Community Kitchen (KPCK), Boys and Girls Club, Reading Buddies, Initiative for Girls, Discovery Depot Children's Museum, Fish Food Pantry, and Habitat for Humanity. To be a member, you must perform 10 hours of service and six hours of fellowship each term. The only requirement for joining APO is a love and passion for fun while serving others.

Along with volunteering with service organizations in the community, APO hosts an American Red Cross Blood Drive each term at Knox, and hosts their annual APO Run-a-thon event, a 24 hour walk/run marathon around the Knox Track that raises money for a local philanthropy.  The proceeds raised from Runathon 2015 will be going to the Fish Food Pantry. During spring term 2015, APO planned a brand new food service event called Alpha Fry Omega. At the event, the members of APO cooked and served burgers and fries to members of the Knox community. The funds earned from this event were donated to a number of local philanthropies in the Galesburg area.
