Students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens can apply for need-based financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

NOTE: If you are an international student, please refer to the instructions about applying for Financial Aid for International Students. Undocumented students residing in the United States should complete the  Financial Aid Application for Students Ineligible for Federal Financial Aid (PDF). 

When to Apply

We recommend you submit the FAFSA prior to the dates below to ensure your financial aid award is sent in a timely manner. The 2024-25 FAFSA will be available in December 2023.

What to Expect

  • Shortly after you file your FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Federal Student Aid Programs. Your SAR will arrive by email if you provide an email address, or by regular mail if you do not. Carefully review the SAR and make any necessary changes at studentaid.gov.
  • We will contact you if other documents are required prior to preparing or finalizing your financial aid award.

Special Circumstances

If your family anticipates a reduction in income, has incurred high medical or dental expenses, pays private elementary or high school tuition for siblings, makes educational debt payments, or has other unique circumstances, you may wish to complete a Knox College Special Circumstances form after you file your FAFSA.
