Student Research Grants Knox is a leader in promoting top-notch undergraduate research, annually awarding students more than $200,000 in grants to support research and creative projects. Among our programs are the Ford Foundation Research Fellows Program, which funds the scientific, scholarly, and creative projects of 20 students each year, and the summer research program at Knox's Lincoln Studies Center. More than 10 percent of Knox students receive support for independent research and study from the Richter Memorial Foundation Program and the Pew Research Fellowships, which offers Knox students support for off-campus research in science and mathematics. In addition, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund funds student research in ecology and environmental studies and the AAAS/Merck Grant supports interdisciplinary scientific research. Off-Campus Study The curiosity and adventurousness of Knox students simply can't be contained on a single campus. Almost 50 percent of them take advantage of our many opportunities for off-campus learning, studying theatre in London, history in Barcelona, French immersion in Besançon, mathematics in Hungary, social development in Tanzania, language and culture in Japan, political science in Washington, D.C., and a host of other subjects in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the U.S. More... Independent Study One of the great advantages of a Knox education is the opportunity to work closely with faculty on independent study projects. In fact, more than 85 percent of Knox students complete a research project or participate in a self-designed class before they graduate. You might work as a research assistant in a professor's lab, study a subject not offered in the regular curriculum, or follow up a course you really loved with a more advanced research or creative project. Ronald E. McNair Program Selected in their first year at Knox, McNair Fellows gain the benefit of special tutorials, research skill development, and intensive career education. They also receive funding for substantive summer research and help in finding assistantships and internships that involve academic careers. The goal is to encourage first-generation college students from ethnic and social groups that are underrepresented in research and higher education careers to explore and choose those careers.
