Assistant Professor of History
Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois, is seeking an Assistant Professor of History. The individual will be responsible for teaching two History courses per term for three ten-week terms per year to undergraduate students. Teaching will include courses in Modern European History. Position requires preparation of lectures according to the curriculum and presentations to students. The position also requires grading exams and papers, holding class meetings and individual tutoring sessions, supervising student independent research, maintaining regular office hours and advising students.

A Ph.D. in History is required. In the alternative, a Master's degree in History and recent completion of all coursework toward a Ph.D. is acceptable. Of particular interest to the department is expertise in modern European history (preferably continental Europe) and also the history of another area of the world and the interaction between Europe and other areas of the world.

Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois, seeks an Assistant Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures-German to teach two German language and literature courses for three ten-week terms per year to undergraduate students. Assistant Professor Anthropology and Sociology
The Department of Anthropology and Sociology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in sociology at the assistant professor level to begin September 2010. Knox is an independent, highly selective liberal arts institution with a diverse student body and faculty and a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. The department offers a joint anthropology-sociology major which emphasizes the complementarities of the two disciplines and which culminates in faculty-tutored student research.

Qualifications: Ph.D. or advanced ABD in sociology. The successful candidate must be well versed in a range of methodologies. Desirable specialties include, but are not limited to, microsociological approaches.

Education Generalist
Knox College seeks a tenure track assistant professor in the Educational Studies Department. The Educational Studies Department offers certification program in 18 areas. This position is for a generalist who excels in teaching and has an active research agenda. This position will begin September 2010.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses, supervising student teachers, advising education majors, and participating in department and college governance. Special facets of our program include the prospect of traveling with students to China and Arizona, generous opportunities for research support, and a liberal arts approach to teacher preparation. Certification and three years of teaching experience in a K-12 environment is required. A doctorate in an appropriate field is desired, although ABDs will be considered.

Chair in Religion and Culture
Knox College invites applications for a newly endowed Chair in Religion and Culture; the appointment will be at the advanced assistant or associate professor rank and will begin fall 2010. The strongest applicants will be those able to teach courses in at least two major religious traditions, as well as in the comparative or theoretical study of religion.

Candidate must have a Ph.D., and when hired will be expected to assume leadership of the Religious Studies program after one or two years. A record of ongoing research and publication appropriate to one's areas of concentration is expected as well as evidence of the ability to play a major role in shaping the development of the program. The new position is being added in order to build a wide-ranging and cohesive curriculum in Religious Studies, which has previously been represented by a small collection of courses taught by interested specialists from other departments and disciplines. Overlap of field with current instructors is not a concern. The normal teaching load is two courses in each of three 10-week terms.

Department of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science invites applications for an anticipated tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin Sept. 1, 2010. We seek candidates with the potential for excellence in teaching and research in a liberal arts institution. While all areas of specialization will be considered the following areas that complement existing departmental expertise are particularly welcome: database management systems, modeling and simulation, human-computer interaction, and artificial intelligence. A Ph.D. in Computer Science is preferred, although candidates that are ABD will be considered.

The Department offers a major and a minor in Computer Science. Departmental computing facilities include student laboratories, a student independent research laboratory, a quad-processor Intel Xeon server running Red Hat Linux, a departmental Macintosh laboratory with virtualization software that permits running Windows or Linux, a 192 core parallel processing graphics system, and access to the College's other Windows and Macintosh laboratories. The campus is completely wireless.

Assistant Professor of Spanish
Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois, seeks an Assistant Professor of Spanish. This is a Tenure-track position at the assistant professor level. Must have interest in participating in a College-wide interdisciplinary program and willingness to participate in the departmental rotation as on-site director of Knox College study-abroad programs in Barcelona (academic year) and Buenos Aires (fall semester).

Ph.D. required, but ABD considered. Native/near-native fluency. Preferred expertise in Latin American literature and/or teaching Spanish as a second language with evidence of successful teaching of language and literature at all undergraduate levels.
