David Marquardt Named Prairie Fire Performer of the Week
Senior wins individual medalist honors and leads Knox to MWC Championship

David Marquardt, a senior from Bloomington, Illinois (Bloomington High School), was named the Knox College Prairie Fire Performer of the Week on Monday, May 5. Marquardt won the individual championship in helping the Knox men's golf team win the Midwest Conference Championship. The Prairie Fire now advance to the NCAA Division III Championships from May 13-16.

Marquardt, the conference runner-up in 2007, finished with a three-round total of 224 to win individual medalist honors by nine strokes. He opened with an even-par round of 72 on Thursday at the Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Illinois. The Knox senior followed with a round of 74 on Friday and a round of 78 on Saturday to win going away. A Knox golfer has won an individual men's golf championship a league-best 20 times.

Marquardt's efforts helped lead the Knox men's golf team to its 29th overall Midwest Conference Championship, and it's 20th title since 1982. Knox finished with a total of 970 (315-317-338) to defeat defending champion Monmouth College by six strokes.

With the conference title, Knox earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Championships, held in Braselton, Georgia, from May 13-16. Knox last qualified for Nationals in 1988.
