Bunraku Japanese Puppet Performance

February 29, 2008
7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Harbach Theatre

The Knox College Japanese Club proudly presents the Bunraku Bay Troupe, from the University of Missouri. Bunraku is a traditional form of Japanese puppet theater that co-exists with Noh and Kabuki as Japan's major three theatrical forms. Bunraku puppets are full-bodied and are manipulated carefully by skilled puppeteers in order to simulate life-like action. The puppets range from 2.5 to 4 feet tall and often require multiple puppeteers for operation.

Bunraku Bay is the first traditional Bunraku troupe in North America. They have performed in many notable venues including the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts and the Smithsonian Institution. This event has been made possible by The Center for Global Studies, Cultural Events Committee, Finely Lecture Fund and the Student Senate.
