Matt Goedeke, a freshman from Yates City, Illinois (Farmington High School), was named the Knox College Prairie Fire Performer of the Week on Monday, January 28. Goedeke came off the bench to average double figures as Knox defeated Beloit College and Carroll College over the weekend. The Prairie Fire are now 4-4 in Midwest Conference play, which includes a 4-1 conference mark in Memorial Gymnasium. Goedeke started the week with a seven-point, three-rebound performance in a 65-58 win over Beloit Friday night. He added three steals and two assists. Saturday, Goedeke sparked a second-half rally in a 66-65 win over Carroll. The 6-4 forward scored nine of his 13 points in the second half as Knox rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit. Along with the 13 points, Goedeke chipped in with 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots in the win. This season, Goedeke is averaging 7.7 points and 4.3 rebounds over 21.5 minutes. He has appeared in all 15 games and made one start. Knox will look to keep its modest two-game winning streak intact Wednesday against Grinnell College. The men's game will start at approximately 7 p.m., following the 5 p.m. women's game.
