A Commitment to Your Global Education. Knox encourages you to open your mind to a world of possibilities, literally. Part of our commitment to helping you see the world through a broader lens is our continuous support of three long-standing study abroad programs. Each of these distinctive programs in Barcelona, Spain; Besançon, France; and Buenos Aires, Argentina, evoke their own flavor and impart a unique immersion into their part of the world.

Knox study abroad programs are built upon well-established relationships with partner universities and the ever-deepening knowledge of dedicated Knox faculty who, as on-site Resident Directors, provide a source of support, guidance, and cultural knowledge to students embracing the challenges and rewards of study abroad.

In the spirit of global education, Knox welcomes college students from across the country to experience the culture and adventure inherent in each study abroad program. Each year approximately 25 percent of participating students in Knox study abroad programs hail from colleges such as Dartmouth, Barnard, Swarthmore, Smith, and Tufts University.

Knox in Barcelona. Ancient and modern history, art and architecture mix with a bustling metropolitan scene, beautiful beaches and possibilities for adventures throughout Europe. The Knox program in Barcelona offers you a chance to be a typical college student, Barcelona style, for one, two, or three trimesters. Through a relationship begun in 1968, students in the Knox program study at the Universitat de Barcelona, the oldest university in Spain, and the second largest. Educational excursions to historical sites throughout Spain and life with a Spanish host family enrich your connection to Barcelona's vibrant cultural history and way of life.

Knox in Besançon. Established in 1966, this Knox program is the oldest American program in Besançon, a beautiful and historic city in eastern France. Live and study at the Université de Besançon, in the Jura Mountains of France's Franche-Comté region enjoying the same vistas as famous inhabitants, such as Victor Hugo and Louis Pasteur. Appreciate exquisite examples of 16th, 17th, and 18th century architecture as you walk 'la Grande Rue,' Besançon's main street, a former Russian road.

An initial, one-month home-stay with a French family and university dormitory accommodations thereafter provide a unique opportunity to participate in both French home culture and university life. Educational excursions to Paris and regions surrounding Besançon sample the charms of the region: vineyards, wine cellars, picturesque villages, and cathedrals and castles dating from the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

Knox in Buenos Aires. Experience Spanish culture in the South American style with one term of study at the University of Palermo in Buenos Aires. Students in the program are welcomed into the homes of Argentine host families, and, unlike many other study abroad programs, take part in classes with Argentine college students. This close engagement with Argentine culture offers the best opportunity to strengthen your language skills and deepen your cultural connection.

Engage in the dramatic political and economic activism of the country as Argentines work toward installing their new democracy, stabilizing their economy, and struggling to heal past economic and social wrongs. The activist in you will be energized by scheduled discussions with various organizations and individuals working for human rights and social justice in Argentina, including Madres de Plaza de Mayo and Supreme Court Judges, Carmen Argibay and Elena Highton.

Educational excursions to such natural wonders Iguazú Falls, whale-watching at Valdes Peninsula, and glacier-walking in the Andes Mountains compliment adventures in the culturally and artistically rich metropolis of Buenos Aires, hailed as the "Paris of South America" for its numerous museums, galleries, theatres, and boutiques.
