Four new members were inducted into the Allan P. Christiansen Knox-Lombard Athletic Hall of Fame as part of 2007 Homecoming festivities. The 1959 Knox men's basketball team, James Brown '86, J. Charles Janes '55, and Lisa Williamson '86 are the newest members of the Hall of Fame.
2007 Inductees The 1959 Men's Basketball Team
The 1959 men's basketball team finished its season with a 20-3 record overall and a 15-1 mark in the Midwest Conference. The team, coached by Frank Adams, averaged nearly 80 points per game in league play in winning the conference title. The nucleus of the team also helped Knox share conference championships in 1958 and 1960. The 1959 team was the second straight Knox men's basketball team to be selected to participate in the 16-team NCAA College Championships. Knox finished second in regionals both years. The 1959 team has the highest winning percentage in Knox men's basketball history. Team members were Bob Bennett, Chuck Davis, Gordie Faubel, Denny Geraghty, Bill Graning, Gary Hoopes, Dan Littell, Jim Marks, Mike Morin, John Napiersky, Joe Pankus, Dick Pierson and J.B. White. James Brown graduated from Knox in 1986 after earning nine letters in three sports – football, wrestling and track. He was named or voted a team captain three times. James found his most individual success on the wrestling mat, placing third at 167 pounds at the Midwest Conference championships. He also wrestled at 158 pounds. After an injury kept James off the football playing field in 1984, he served the team as an assistant coach. J. Charles Janes graduated from Knox in 1955 after a stellar wrestling career. The two-year captain won conference championships during his junior and senior seasons. J. Charles led the Knox wrestling team to its first undefeated season in 1955. That same year, he qualified for the NCAA National Tournament at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. Undefeated in two years of Midwest Conference competition, J. Charles' only losses came at the National Tournament. Lisa Williamson '86
Lisa Williamson graduated from Knox in 1986 after setting several school records for the swim team. Swimming primarily the middle distances, Lisa still holds four Knox school records. Besides earning four letters in swimming, Lisa also lettered three years in cross country and two years in track. She was the team captain of the cross country team as a senior. At Knox, Lisa also won the Michel Loomis Award, given to the female student-athlete with the outstanding performance in an individual sport, and the Evelyn Bielefeldt Award, given to the senior female student-athlete with the most outstanding career in intercollegiate athletics. She also competed in the National Short Course Triathlon Championship during her senior year and placed 15th in her age group. The Allan P. Christiansen Knox-Lombard Hall of Fame The Allan P. Christiansen Knox-Lombard Hall of Fame recognizes the achievements of these distinguished athletes and teams. Each inductee is honored with a bronze plaque in T. Fleming Fieldhouse and at an induction banquet in October during Homecoming Weekend. The Hall of Fame is named in memory of Allan P. Christiansen, an outstanding athlete and long-time administrator at Knox College. Hall of Fame inductees are selected by a five-member committee.
