The Prairie Fire women's soccer progam is one of the oldest in the nation. Women's soccer at Knox started as a club sport in the early 1980s and gained its varsity status in 1987. Since then, Knox has fielded All-American talent and made multiple appearances at the Midwest Conference championships. Prairie Fire women's soccer focuses on conditioning and advanced soccer concepts. Players who seek a balance of competitive athletics and strong academics thrive at Knox, and are able to find success in both. Competing in the Midwest Conference gives Knox soccer players the chance to compete against some of the best Division III soccer teams in the Midwest. Prats Field is also located on campus which gives easy access not only to players, but also to fans who come cheer for the team. The field was renovated in the summer of 2007 and dedicated as Jorge Prats Soccer Field. In terms of training, soccer players take advantage of the state-of-the-art E. & L. Andrews Fitness Center, which offers some of the best training space in the region. The goal of the Prairie Fire soccer team is to be considered an annual contender for the Midwest Conference title and to put forth its best possible effort every time it's on the field. Prairie Fire soccer players have gone on to a wide variety of successful careers. Sara Burton '91 (Anthropology-Sociology) is the head women's soccer coach at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
