February 23 - Lake Forest College
Lake Forest spoiled the final game for three Knox seniors, Andie Allison, Jenna Finley and Jenny Golz, with a 70-31 victory. The Prairie Fire wrap up the season with a 3-20 record overall and a 1-15 mark in Midwest Conference play. Finley hit a jumper to open the scoring as Knox matched nationally-ranked Lake Forest (20-3, 14-2 MWC) in the early minutes. Allison's jumper knotted the score at 8-8 just 4:30 into the game. But the Foresters followed with a 17-2 run over the next 11 minutes to build a 25-10 lead. The margin was 35-12 at the half. Any comeback hopes were quickly dashed as Lake Forest scored the first eight points of the second half. Finley led Knox with 11 points. Erin Navolio added 10. Allison finished with six points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Golz chipped in with two points, two rebounds and three assists. In her three-year Prairie Fire career, Golz appeared in 63 games and finished with 61 points, 86 rebounds and 55 assists. Finley and Allison, the 52nd and 53rd four-year women's basketball letterwinners at Knox, were two-year team co-captains. Finley played in 90 games and scored 653 points, grabbed 234 rebounds and handed out 189 assists. She is 17th on time in career scoring at Knox. Allison appeared in her 85th career game. She finished her four-year career with 833 points, 447 rebounds, 95 assists and 79 blocked shots. She is eighth in career scoring at Knox.
February 20 - Grinnell College
Knox shot nearly 58 percent in the first half but couldn't maintain the hot shooting in an 85-61 loss at Grinnell. The Prairie Fire are 3-19 overall and 1-14 in the Midwest Conference. Knox came out firing and took a 21-15 lead 10 minutes into the contest. The lead was still four points at 33-29 with 4:33 remaining in the half but Grinnell (9-13, 7-8 MWC) closed the half on a 13-2 run. Despite the hot shooting, the Prairie Fire could not keep up with Grinnell's three-point attack. The Pioneers knocked down eight of their 15 triples in the first half in building the 42-35 halftime lead. Jenny Golz and Andie Allison opened the second half with jumpers to trim the deficit to 42-39 early in the second half. But Grinnell responded with a 13-3 run to build a 13-point lead. The Prairie Fire never got the margin into single digits the rest of the way. Knox shot 48 percent from the floor for the game while limiting Grinnell to 40-percent shooting. The difference came from beyond the arc as the Pioneers knocked down 15-of-38 three-pointers. Knox made only 2-of-8. Allison and Erin Navolio each led Knox with 14 points. Kate Moon dropped in 12. The Prairie Fire will close the 2007-08 season at home Saturday, February 23, against Lake Forest College. The women's game will start at 2 p.m.
February 13 - Monmouth College
Monmouth scored 20 straight points over a nine-minute stretch bridging the first and second halves to defeat Knox 72-49. The Prairie Fire are 3-18 overall and 1-13 in the Midwest Conference. Knox led in the early minutes of the game, taking as much as a 9-2 lead on Erin Navolio's jumper. After Monmouth (11-9, 7-6 MWC) recovered and took a 17-11 lead, the Prairie Fire battled back with a 9-0 run. Kate Moon scored four points during the spurt to give Knox a 20-17 lead with 7:15 remaining in the half. From that point, the Prairie Fire would not score for nine minutes. The Fighting Scots scored the final 16 points of the half to lead 33-20 at the break. Monmouth dropped in the first four points of the second half before Moon's jumper ended the Prairie Fire dry spell. By then, the Scots had built a 37-20 lead and were not threatened the rest of the way. Andie Allison led Knox with 11 points. Jenna Finley scored nine points and Navolio, Moon and Jenny Golz each scored eight. Finley paced the Prairie Fire with eight rebounds and four assists.
February 09 - Ripon College
Knox managed only 18 first-half points in an eventual 76-49 loss at Ripon. The Prairie Fire are 3-17 overall and 1-12 in the Midwest Conference. Ripon (6-14, 3-10 MWC) scored the first six points in a game in which the Red Hawks never trailed. The lead was 34-18 at halftime. The Prairie Fire never threatened in the second half. Knox shot just 27 percent in the first half and finished at 33-percent shooting for the game. Ripon shot nearly 55 percent from the floor in the second half. Jenna Finley led the Prairie Fire with 13 points. Andie Allison scored seven and Kate Moon dropped in six.
February 08 - St. Norbert College
Knox shot only 27 percent from the floor and committed 34 turnovers in a 69-31 loss at St. Norbert. The Prairie Fire are 3-16 overall and 1-11 in the Midwest Conference. Knox did stay close early. Erin Navolio hit a three-pointer for the game's first points and the Prairie Fire trailed by only three points with 6:37 left in the first half. St. Norbert (15-4, 11-1 MWC) then closed the half on a 16-4 run to lead 31-16 at the break. St. Norbert scored the first eight points of the second half to take control. The Prairie Fire defense did a solid job in the first half limiting the Green Knights to 37 percent shooting. But Knox could not overcome its own shooting difficulties, making only 9-of-33 field goal attempts in the game. Navolio led Knox with nine points. Kate Moon and Andie Allison each scored six.
February 05 - Illinois College
Illinois College grabbed a 44-17 rebounding edge to defeat Knox 90-66. The Lady Blues finished with 25 offensive rebounds in the win. Knox dropped to 3-15 overall and 1-10 in the Midwest Conference. The Prairie Fire actually finished with a higher shooting percentage than the Lady Blues, but were undone by the rebounding differential. Knox shot 48 percent from the floor (25-of-52 shooting) while Illinois College shot 44 percent (34-of-77). Knox also forced 28 turnovers. Knox stayed close in the early going. The Prairie Fire trailed only 16-15 after Erin Navolio buried a jumper more than six minutes into the contest. Illinois College (9-9, 5-6 MWC) led just 42-36 late in the half before claiming a 50-38 halftime advantage. The Lady Blues scored the first six points of the second half to take control. Senior co-captains Andie Allison and Jenna Finley led Knox in scoring with 20 and 17, respectively. Finley added a team-high seven assists. Navolio also reached double figures with 10 points.
February 02 - Lake Forest College
Knox shot only 29 percent and commited 31 turnovers in an 86-37 loss at Lake Forest. The Prairie Fire are 3-14 overall and 1-9 in Midwest Conference play. Lake Forest (14-3, 8-2 MWC) raced to a 26-2 lead midway through the first half and never looked back. Trailing 7-2 early, the Prairie Fire misfired on 13 consecutive field goal attempts and turned the ball over 14 times over a 13-minute span. Knox knocked down 8-of-11 free throws, with Jenna Finley hitting all six of her attempts, during that time. Carly Kirven ended the drought from the floor with a jumper with 4:31 left in the half to make the score 41-12. The Foresters led 51-20 at the half and were never threatened. Finley led Knox with 16 points. Allison scored seven points and Navolio finished with six.
January 30 - Grinnell College
Knox limited Grinnell to 22 percent shooting in the first half but the Prairie Fire were unable to hold on in the second half of a 67-57 loss. Knox is 3-13 overall and 1-8 in the Midwest Conference. Both teams struggled offensively in the first half. Despite Grinnell's shooting woes, Knox only grabbed a 21-20 halftime lead thanks to 38 percent shooting. The Prairie Fire were also hurt by 11 first half turnovers. Grinnell (6-10, 4-5 MWC) stayed close thanks to the efforts of Hannah Wolf. Wolf scored 16 of her game-high 28 points in the first half. The Pioneers warmed up in the second half, shooting at a 55-percent clip. Grinnell grabbed a double-digit lead early in the second half. The lead was 59-39 with 4:40 to play before Knox used a late charge to account for the final score. Grinnell went to the free throw line 28 times, converting 15, while Knox attempted only 13. Kate Moon led Knox with 17 points and eight rebounds. Erin Navolio scored 14 and pulled down seven boards. Jenna Finley also finished in double figures with 11 points.
January 26 - Carroll College
Jenna Finley scored 18 points but Knox couldn't quite overcome a slow start in a 71-53 loss to Carroll. The Prairie Fire are 3-12 overall and 1-7 in Midwest Conference play. Knox struggled offensively early in the first half. Carroll (12-3, 6-2 MWC) built 22-7 lead with less than six minutes remaining in the opening half. Knox made only three of its first 17 shots from the floor before finally getting hot in the half's closing minutes. The Prairie Fire hit five of their last six shots to trail 32-18 at halftime. Finley scored five points and Kate Moon dropped in four late in the half. Despite the strong finish, Knox still shot only 35 percent in the first 20 minutes. The Pioneers seemed to be in control with a 49-33 lead midway through the second half. But once again, the Prairie Fire got hot. An 8-0 run pulled Knox to within 49-41 ,and minutes later, Moon's jumper cut the gap to 55-49 with 5:13 to play. With the score 57-51, Carroll scored 12 straight points to pull away late. The Prairie Fire shot better than 48 percent from the floor in the second half to finish at 42 percent for the game. Knox battled foul trouble all game. Moon, Cheyenne Cortez and Jenny Golz each fouled out, and Erin Navolio played much of the second half with four fouls. The Pioneers connected on 24-of-39 free throws, including 13-of-25 in the first half. Knox went to the line only 12 times and knocked down seven. Allison and Moon joined Finley in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Moon added a game-high 10 rebounds.
January 25 - Beloit College
Knox's limited Beloit to 38 percent shooting but the Prairie Fire came out on the short end of a 71-44 decision. The Prairie Fire are 3-11 overall and 1-6 in the Midwest Conference. Despite the strong defensive effort, Knox was undone by poor shooting. The Prairie Fire shot at only a 32-percent clip, including a 26-percent mark in the first half. After Kate Moon scored the game's first two points, Beloit (9-5, 6-2 MWC) rolled off 12 unanswered points for a 12-2 lead. Andie Allison hit consecutive jumpers to cut the deficit to six points but the Buccaneers quickly pushed the edge back to double digits. The score was 34-20 at halftime. The Prairie Fire never threatened in the second half. Beloit grabbed a 58-29 advantage on the boards to help overcome the poor shooting. The Buccaneers grabbed 24 offensive rebounds. Allison finished with team highs of 12 points and six rebounds. Jenna Finley scored 10 to go along with five rebounds and five assists, and Erin Navolio finished with nine points. Knox hosts Carroll Saturday, January 26, at 1 p.m.
January 19 - Lawrence University
Andie Allison finished with 15 points and seven rebounds in Knox's 63-52 loss at Lawrence. The Prairie Fire are 3-10 overall and 1-5 in the Midwest Conference. Allison started the scoring with a jumper and Erin Navolio later added a three-pointer as Knox took a 5-4 lead. The Prairie Fire stayed close until a late surge gave Lawrence (4-9, 1-5 MWC) a 29-17 halftime lead. The Vikings scored the first six points of the second half to build a 35-17 edge. Trailing 50-33 with 7:12 to play, Knox ran off 10 straight points to close to within 50-43 with just under five minutes to play. Navolio and Jenna Finley each scored four points during the run. But Lawrence answered with a 10-0 run of its own to regain control. Navolio joined Allison in double figures, finishing with 10 points. Finley and Kate Moon each scored nine.
January 18 - Carroll College
Knox limited Carroll to 42 percent shooting but the Prairie Fire were undone by surrendering 22 offensive rebounds in a 65-49 loss. Knox dropped to 3-9 overall and 1-4 in the Midwest Conference. The Prairie Fire started hot early. Kate Moon scored the team's first four points and Jenna Finley buried a three-pointer as Knox took a 7-3 lead six minutes into the contest. Carroll (9-3, 3-2 MWC) reeled off nine straight points to build a 12-7 advantage. Moon, Amanda Sicoli and Erin Navolio each scored to lead a 6-0 Knox lead as the Prairie Fire regained a 13-12 edge. It was the Prairie Fire's last lead. Carroll led 31-25 at the half and pushed the lead to double digits with 12:49 to play. Knox pulled to within five points on three occasions later in the second half, the last time coming at 48-43 with 8:57 to play, but could get no closer. Knox held Carroll to less that 42 percent shooting, including 37 percent in the first half. But the Pioneers crashed the boards, grabbing 22 of their 45 total rebounds on the offensive end. Andie Allison led Knox with 12 points. Moon finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. Finley added nine points and Navolio scored eight.
January 15 - Monmouth College
Knox shot only 27 percent from the floor in losing to rival Monmouth 78-48. The Prairie Fire dropped to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the Midwest Conference. After Andie Allison gave Knox a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of free throws, Monmouth (7-6, 3-3 MWC) rolled off eight straight points and never looked back. The lead was 45-18 at halftime. The Prairie Fire never got closer than 25 points in the second half. Knox made only 5-of-22 shots in the opening half and finished hitting 12-of-44 from the floor. The Prairie Fire committed 29 turnovers and were also out-rebounded 45-29. Knox did get to the free throw line 27 times and converted 23 of them. Jenna Finley, Kate Moon and Allison each finished with 10 points in the loss. Erin Navolio scored seven and Amanda Sicoli added six points.
January 09 - Illinois College
In its first game in three weeks, Knox missed its first 12 shots from the floor and never recovered in an 89-56 loss to Illinois College. The Prairie Fire are 3-7 overall and 1-2 in the Midwest Conference while the Lady Blues are 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Illinois College raced to an 11-0 lead before Jenna Finley hit a free throw to put Knox on the board five minutes into the game. Andie Allison made the Prairie Fire's first field goal of the game, 8:47 into the contest, to cut the deficit to 15-4. Kate Moon followed with a jumper to pull Knox to within nine points but the Lady Blues scored four straight points and led by double digits the rest of the way. Knox played much better offensively in the second half, hitting 12-of-24 from the floor after halftime, but could never escape the early hole. Illinois College shot nearly 57 percent from the field while Knox finished at just under 35 percent. Erin Navolio led three players in double figures with 16 points in the loss. Moon scored 15 and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds, and Finley added 13 points.
December 19 - Notre Dame College
Knox finished its trip to Florida with a 91-62 loss to Notre Dame College. Madi Hanna led three players in double figures with 16 points in the loss. After Andie Allison gave Knox (3-6 overall) a 2-0 lead 20 seconds into the game, it was all Notre Dame College. The Falcons flew to a 27-8 lead and never looked back. The Prairie Fire cut the deficit to 11 points late in the first half but could never get within single digits. Notre Dame College (9-1) shot better than 51 percent from the floor. Knox shot well, hitting 24-of-52 (46 percent) from the field, but was hurt by committing 33 turnovers. Hanna added nine rebounds and three blocked shots to go along with her 16 points. Erin Navolio scored 12 points and Allison finished with 11. The Prairie Fire are 3-6 overall and finished 0-2 at the Marketing Depot USA Classic hosted by Northwood University in West Palm Beach, Florida.
December 18 - Northwood University
Northwood University knocked down 12 three-pointers to defeat Knox 87-52 in the opening round of the Marketing Depot USA Classic in West Palm Beach, Florida. Knox (3-5 overall) played even with host school Northwood in the early minutes. Jenna Finley's three-pointer capped a 7-0 run to give the Prairie Fire a 14-12 lead. But over the next six minutes, Knox misfired on six field goal attempts and turned the ball over six times as Northwood (8-2) went on a 14-0 run to take a 26-14 lead. The score was 40-22 at halftime and the Lady Seahawks were never threatened in the second half. Northwood hit 12-of-27 from beyond the arc and shot nearly 49 percent from the floor for the game. Knox shot only 24 percent in the second half and finished at 33 percent for the game. The Prairie Fire also committed 28 turnovers. Andie Allison led Knox with 10 points. Jenna Finley scored nine, and Madi Hanna and Kate Moon each finished with eight points and seven rebounds. Knox will conclude play in the two-day Marketing Depot USA Classic Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Notre Dame College.
December 14 - Eureka College
Erin Navolio led three players in double figures as Knox defeated Eureka 53-47 for its third win of the season. Navolio finished with 15 points, which included two three-pointers down the stretch, seven rebounds, four assists and one blocked shot as Knox (3-4 overall) surpassed its win total from a year ago. Jenna Finley and Madi Hanna each chipped in with 10 points. Hanna added seven boards and a pair of blocked shots. Kate Moon (six points, 11 rebounds) and Andie Allison (five points, seven rebounds, three blocks) also made major contributions in the win. After a hot start, the Prairie Fire had to battle back in the closing minutes for the win. Knox led the entire first half and claimed a 27-16 halftime edge. But the second half was a different story. Eureka (1-7) scored the first 10 points of the half to pull to within 27-26. The Red Devils eventually tied the score at 29-29 and took their first lead of the contest at 42-40 with 7:13 remaining. A minute later, Navolio hit her first triple to put the Prairie Fire back in front. Eureka hit two free throws to regain the lead at 45-44, but Navolio buried another three-pointer to give Knox a 47-45 advantage. Eureka's Nicole Fisher knotted the game at 47-47 but Jenny Golz answered with a pair from the line to give the Prairie Fire the lead for good. Navolio added a basket to push the margin to four points and Golz and Allison each hit a single free throw in the closing seconds to account for the final score. The Knox defense limited Eurkea to 33 percent shooting from the floor. Both teams struggled from the line. Knox made only 7-of-19 (37 percent) and Eureka hit 5-of-15 (33 percent). Fisher finished with 21 points and 18 rebounds in the loss. Knox will travel to Florida for a pair of games next week. The Prairie Fire will play Northwood University Tuesday, December 18, at 7 p.m. and play Notre Dame College Wednesday, December 19, at 5 p.m.
December 08 - MacMurray College
Madi Hanna led three players in double figures as Knox defeated MacMurray College 61-48. Erin Navolio and Jenna Finley each scored 12 as the Prairie Fire moved to 2-4 on the season. Knox led 33-28 at the half and turned up the defensive pressure in the second half. MacMurray shot only 27 percent from the floor after halftime as the Prairie Fire pulled away for the 13-point win. Kate Moon scored eight points and Andie Allison finished with seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
December 01 - St. Norbert College
One day after snapping a 28-game Midwest Conference losing streak, Knox struggled in a 63-35 loss to St. Norbert. The Prairie Fire shot only 21 percent from the floor and committed 28 turnovers in falling to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. St. Norbert (4-1, 2-0 MWC) scored the first five points of the game and built a double-digit lead just over nine minutes into the contest. Knox hit ony 5-of-23 field goals in the first half and trailed 27-14 at the break. The Green Knights extended their advantage to 20 points early in the second half and were never threatened. Despite the offensive struggles, Knox played solid defense, limiting St. Norbert to only 36 percent shooting. The big difference was the turnover battle as the Green Knights committed only 12 and scored 24 points off the 28 Prairie Fire miscues. St. Norbert's bench also outscored the Knox reserves 35-2. Jenna Finley and Madi Hanna were the only players to reach double figures in the game as each scored 10 in the loss. Andie Allison finished with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. Knox will visit MacMurray College Saturday, December 8, at 3 p.m.
November 30 - Ripon College
Andie Allison, Madi Hanna and Erin Navolio each reached double figures as Knox defeated Ripon 61-48. The win snapped a 28-game Midwest Conference losing streak for the Prairie Fire, dating back to January 13, 2006, when Knox defeated Beloit College 79-67. Knox (1-3 overall, 1-0 MWC) shot better than 50 percent from the floor in each half and finished at a blistering 54 percent from the field for the game. Defensively, the Prairie Fire limited the Red Hawks to 29 percent shooting. The game was back-and-forth early. Knox used a 9-0 run midway through the first half, with five points coming from Navolio, to take a 18-10 lead. The advantage was 27-22 at halftime. Ripon (2-4, 0-1 MWC) came out of the locker room hot and knotted the score at 29-29 just 3:14 into the second half. But Hanna, Allison and Jenna Finley each hit shots to restore a six-point Knox lead. Ripon never got within four points the rest of the way. Besides the great shooting from the floor, Knox also buried 19-of-25 from the free throw line. Allison led the Prairie Fire with 17 points. Hanna scored 14 to go along with seven rebounds and six blocked shots. Navolio scored 12 and Kate Moon finished with nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Knox will host St. Norbert College Saturday, December 1, at 1 p.m.
November 25 - Rockford College
Despite Kate Moon's 14-point, 13-rebound double-double, Knox lost to Rockford 68-44 on the final day of the 20th annual Pizza Hut-Econo Foods Classic. A 17-1 Rockford run bridging the first and second halves did in Knox. The Prairie Fire are 0-3. Neither team built a lead of more than five points during a first half that saw two ties and seven lead changes. Knox led by five on two occasions in the first half, the last time at 27-22 after an Amanda Sicoli 3-pointer with 6:55 left in the half. Kate Moon's jumper gave Knox a 29-25 lead later in the half but Rockford (2-2) closed on a 9-1 run to take a 34-30 lead into halftime. The Regents then scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 42-30 lead, and they never looked back. Knox made only 5-of-33 field goals in the second half and missed all nine attempts from beyond the 3-point arc. The Prairie Fire shot 26 percent from the floor for the game. Madi Hanna joined Moon in double figures by scoring 12. Erin Navolio added nine, all coming in the first half. Knox will open Midwest Conference play Friday, November 30, at home against Ripon College. The women's-men's doubleheader begins at 5 p.m.
November 24 - Wartburg College
Knox shot only 32 percent from the floor in losing to Wartburg 83-51 on the opening day of the 20th annual Pizza Hut-Econo Foods Classic. The Prairie Fire are 0-2 on the season. Knox started strong as five different Prairie Fire players scored as the team took a 10-9 lead just over five minutes into the contest. Wartburg (3-0) scored 10 unanswered to take a 19-10 lead. Later in the first half, Madi Hanna scored six straight points to pull the Prairie Fire to within 21-19 with 8:24 until halftime. The Knights rebuilt their advantage and led 39-26 at the half. Wartburg opened things up by scoring the first 11 points of the second half to lead 50-26. Knox never got within 20 points the rest of the way. Knox shot only 30 percent in the first half and hit at a 33-percent clip in the second half. Besides the cold shooting, Knox also struggled on the boards, getting out-rebounded 53-33. Hanna led the Prairie Fire with 15 points and seven rebounds. Kate Moon finished with 12 points and five boards. Knox will finish play in the Pizza Hut-Econo Foods Classic Sunday at 1 p.m. against Rockford College.
November 20 - Greenville College
Knox shot only 32 percent from the floor in the second half in dropping the season opener 67-50 to Greenville. Meredith Banal led the Panthers with 31 points on 11-of-16 shooting. Greenville (1-2) hit its first six shots from the field in racing to an early 13-5 lead. Senior co-captains Andie Allison and Jenna Finley kept the Prairie Fire in the game. The pair combined for 16 of the team's first 20 points. Erin Navolio scored seven points and freshman Madi Hanna dropped in six as Knox trailed 34-29 at halftime. Allison scored the first two points of the second half to cut the deficit to three points at 34-31 but the Panthers scored seven straight to push the advantage to double figures. Knox never got closer than 16 points in the final 10 minutes. After shooting 48 percent from the field in the first half, Knox cooled and finished at just under 40 percent for the game. Greenville also held a 45-31 advantage on the boards. Allison led the Prairie Fire with 19 points and eight rebounds. Hanna scored nine to go along with five rebounds and four blocked shots. Finley and Navolio each finished with eight. Knox will host the 20th annual Pizza Hut-Econo Foods Classic Saturday and Sunday, November 24-25. The Prairie Fire will play Wartburg Saturday at 5 p.m. and Rockford Sunday at 1 p.m.
