Christina Davis Named Prairie Fire Performer of the Week

Christina Davis, a senior from Dolton, Illinois (Thornridge High School), has been named Knox College Prairie Fire Performer of the Week for the second consecutive week. The senior weight thrower broke the school record in the weight throw for the second week in a row at the Illinois Wesleyan University Titan Open on Saturday January 30, 2010.

Women's Basketball Game Recaps

The Prairie Fire women picked up their ninth win of the season as they defeated Lawrence University for the second time this season with a score of 54-50. The Prairie Fire battled back from a 14 point deficit as the Vikings lead 18-4 with 9:13 minutes left in the first half. By half time the Prairie Fire had chipped away to make the score 28-25 in favor of the Vikings. Five minutes in to the second half the Prairie Fire tied it up at 33 before the Vikings once again pulled ahead. The Vikings maintained the lead for most of the second half before the Prairie Fire took it with 3:30 left and held onto until the end.

Men's Basketball Game Recaps

The Prairie Fire men's basketball team lost to Lawrence University on Saturday February 6, 75-67. Knox battled all the way back from an early double digit lead to tie the game at 39 going into half. The Vikings would counter with a 13-6 run late in the second half, and the Prairie Fire would come no closer than within five points of the Vikings lead. Tanner Colson led the way for Knox, as he had 16 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals. Joe Kozak contributed 14 points and seven rebounds, while Ben Wetherbee had 14 points off the bench for the Prairie Fire.

The Knox College Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), in cooperation with Monmouth College sponsored MILES for MYLES on January 30, 2010 in honor of former NCAA President, Dr. Myles Brand. There were over 125 participants from Knox and Monmouth, raising $450 dollars for cancer research.

Tuesday night in Knox College's 88-20 victory over Lincoln Christian, the Prairie Fire women's basketball team broke team records in four different categories.

This past Saturday, the Knox College men's and women's indoor track teams competed at the Dr. Jim Green Invitational in Jacksonville, IL. While no team scores were given, both the men and women accomplished several individual achievements. For the women, the meet was highlighted by the first place finish of Kristi Weller, Claire Knowlton, Lizzy Warner, and Sarah Brown in the 4*200 meter relay with a time of 1:55.06. Kevin Box had a personal record in the 5000 meter run finishing in eighth place with a time of 16:30.97 and beating his previous best by 48 seconds.

On January 15 and 16 the Prairie Fire swimming and diving team competed in the Grinnell Invitational and in doing so set five new school records - two individual records and three team records.

The Knox College Prairie Fire men's and women's swim teams competed at the Illinois College Invite in Jacksonville, IL. The meet was Knox's final tune up before Knox heads to compete at the Midwest Conference championship Feb.12-14th. Individually, the women placed first in ten of the eleven individual events and one of the two team relays.

The Knox College Hitting League is a competitive and instructional way to keep your hitting and baseball skills sharp for the upcoming season. League members will compete against like age groups in a seasonal long hitting competition. In addition, instruction will be offered by the Knox College coaching staff, current Knox players and local coaches.
