The College's soccer field, located west of the Knox Bowl, was renovated and named Jorge Prats Field in honor of Dr. Jorge Prats. Prats was professor of modern languages from 1962-2000, coach of the men's and women's varsity soccer programs for more than three decades, and founder of the Knox College study abroad program in Barcelona, Spain. Upon Prats' induction to the Knox-Lombard Athletic Hall of Fame on October 13, 2006, the 1973 Midwest Conference Championship Soccer Team publicly announced they had secured sufficient gifts and pledges to name the soccer venue Jorge Prats Field, and would continue fundraising to renovate the field. Alumni and friends attending the Soccer Reunion that weekend enthusiastically endorsed the $75,000 renovation project. Alumni efforts led by David Bauman '74 and Steve Kaszynski '76 raised the balance needed to complete the project. Renovations were completed in time for the fall 2007 season and the dedication of Jorge Prats Field took place October 20, 2007, during Homecoming. Renovations to the former soccer surface involved digital leveling and reseeding the playing field. Enhancements to the venue included covered team benches for both teams; the installation of fencing around the field; a state-of-the-art public address system; and new goals. Leadership donors to the renovation will be recognized on a permanent plaque located at Jorge Prats Field.
