GALESBURG -- Renowned photographer Archie Lieberman will give a talk about his work at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 11 in the Round Room, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. The lecture is free and open to the public.

While at Knox, Lieberman also is judging entries in Knox's annual Albert Young Exhibition. The exhibit features hundreds of student works in ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.

Awards will be presented at 4 p.m., Friday, May 12 in the Gallery, Ford Center for the Fine Arts. The ceremony and exhibit, which is on display from May 7 to May 30, are free and open to the public. Exhibit hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weekdays.

A lecturer in art and visiting artist at Knox, Lieberman worked for Look magazine from 1952 to 1972. His photographs have also appeared in a wide range of other publications, including Time, Life, Fortune, Paris-Match, Collier's, Holiday, and London Illustrated. His pictures have been exhibited worldwide and published in more than 20 books, including "Farm Boy," and "Neighbors," which featured people who lived near Lieberman in northwest Illinois.

Lieberman has received numerous awards, including recognition from the University of Missouri School of Journalism and the Friends of Literature, the Peter Lisagor Award from the Society of Professional Journalists, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Dubuque.

Now in its 37th year, the Albert Young Exhibition awards more than $2,000 in prizes annually. Many of the prizes are funded by gifts from the late Albert C. Young and his family. Young, who died in 1993, began donating to the prize fund while he was still a student at Knox in the 1960s. After graduating from Knox in 1969, Young taught school in Belleville, Illinois, continuing to fund several prizes in honor of members of his family.

Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 46 states and 43 nations. Knox's 'Old Main' is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
