Experience the thrill of Division III athletics—experience the Prairie Fire: fast, fierce, and explosive! Knox offers 21 NCAA varsity sports, and our teams consisted of 88 Academic All-Conference award winners in 2004 alone. Our men’s golf team has won 19 of the last 23 conference championships; our women’s golf team has won the conference championship four times in seven years and has played in the NCAA Division III National Championship. In 2003-2004, Prairie Fire athletes broke 26 school records.
And talk about competition: our annual “Turkey Bowl” game against arch-rival Monmouth College is more than 100 years old—the oldest such rivalry west of the Allegheny Mountains, to be exact. That well-loved and infamous traditional game—which nets the winning team the prized “Bronze Turkey” trophy— is often played in the Knox Bowl, our trademark football field, which is just one of our impressive athletic facilities that rank among the best in NCAA Division III.
A liberal arts education is committed to developing the whole person, and that development includes the discipline, leadership and team-building skills that are the hallmark of athletic participation. At Knox, that means academics come first, but come game time, our student-athletes play just as hard as they study. |
