Strengthening a Community Partnership
Alumni Hall

The design of a renovated Alumni Hall will strengthen the partnership that exists between Knox College, Galesburg and the surrounding region. Tourist revenues will grow, as Alumni Hall attracts local and regional visitors to the community and the surrounding region. The new art gallery will enrich the community's cultural life. And the renovated auditorium will create a space unlike any other in Galesburg, perfect for important civic gatherings, political debates, and plenary sessions for conferences and conventions.

Also important, the design of Alumni Hall will position the campus to serve as a convention and conference center. This will bring important revenue to the campus, as well as to Galesburg more generally. The central auditorium meets a city-wide demand for a space for plenary sessions, while the meeting hall and conference rooms give Alumni Hall great flexibility for breakout and specialized meetings. Catering facilities are built into the design.

The tourism potential of this project is expected to attract 8,000 visitors per year to the Old Main/Alumni Hall site within three years, with 20,000 visitors per year the long-term goal. In addition, within three years, it is projected to generate an additional 1,200 overnight stays in local hotels and motels, increase by 10% the number of conventions hosted in Galesburg, and attract 2,000 off-campus visitors to the art gallery.
