The opening of the fitness center frees up 3,000 square feet of space previously used as the Cecil-Frum Strength Training Facility in the basement of Memorial Gymnasium. This area will be renovated during spring 2006 into a variety of spaces to serve all student-athletes. The renovation will be funded by a generous gift from Charles W. '52 and Priscilla Porter and matching dollars raised from wrestling alumni through the Porter Challenge. Facility renovations include: James "Sherman" Nordin '67 Wrestling Workout Room—Adjacent to the current strength training facility is the Joseph '65 and Nancy Masterson wrestling practice room. The conversion will offer new workout space to the wrestling team by opening a doorway between the practice room and the new space. The resulting new workout area will include equipment especially for the use of wrestlers. Team Meeting/Film Room—This area will be used by all teams for team meetings and to view films and tapes after games and meets. There currently is no room to fill this need on a consistent basis. Athletic Training Room Expansion—The remaining space will open up into the current athletic taping and treatment room, doubling the space devoted to keeping all Knox student-athletes in tip-top shape. Naming opportunities are available for the team meeting/film room and the athletic training room annex.
