Knox Bowl Renovation
Venue to be Named Harley Knosher Bowl When Complete

The Knox Bowl has been home to Siwash and Prairie Fire football since 1967. With a little help from a snowstorm, it's also been home to some of the best "traying" available. Traying? Football, traying, and more will happen in the Bowl in the future.

Constructed over four years using earth excavated from other campus construction projects, the Knox Bowl has always been a unique football venue; however, the original plans reveal that it was never completed. The Bowl was intended to have permanent bathrooms, sidewalks, stairs and a concession facility. Adding those amenities -- and more -- are part of the plan for improving the Bowl experience.

Knox Bowl renovations began in March 2008. When the project is completed in August 2008, the Bowl will be renamed the Harley Knosher Bowl in honor of Harley Knosher, who served Knox for 40 years (1960-2000) as a faculty member, coach and athletic director. According to Coach Knosher, he has missed only two Knox football games in the past 47 years.

The $1.8 million Bowl renovation includes:

  • Synthetic turf which will allow the Bowl to be a recreational destination 365 days a year versus five Saturdays each fall as with a natural grass surface.
  • Paved sidewalks, ramps and stairs leading up to the Bowl berms and around the upper level of the field.
  • Wrought iron fencing replacing the chain link fencing.
  • Entrance gates on northeast and northwest corners.
  • Cut backs into the sides of the Bowl on both sides of the field (between the 30 yard lines), enlarging the space for team bench and athletic training staff and equipment.
  • New goal posts.
  • Lowering the north berm to open the Bowl to viewing from Knox Street.
  • Handicap parking.

  • Picnic tables and seating areas.
  • On-site storage for team equipment and supplies.
