"That just might work!"
You'll hear Knox professors say this all the time as they encourage you to develop your own scholarly pursuits and sometimes even design your own courses and majors.
Our faculty members will make sure your education is anything but passive. Knox classes are interactive, not just lectures. Students are not mere note takers. At Knox, your professors are your fellow learners. They get just as excited learning from you just as they do sharing with you their ideas and discoveries.
Classes are small-the average size is 17 -- so professors can engage students directly. Equally as important, they encourage students to engage with one another. Impassioned discussion is the norm at Knox.
Our faculty members are also devoted to one-on-one mentoring and will always make time to talk with you. Their discussions with students frequently spill over beyond the classroom into the dining halls, the basketball court -- yes, some professors play intramural sports -- and even faculty living rooms, as more than 90% of seniors report visiting a professor's home as a guest.
Mentors Worth Emulating
Knox professors are active scholar-teachers-more than 60% had their work publicized or presented during the past two years-who often invite students to collaborate in their scholarly pursuits. They'll consider you a collaborator on the team engaged in the shared pursuit of knowledge. They'll expect you to have ideas, to form and defend opinions, and to pull your own intellectual weight. And in fact, Knox students emulate their professors: 90% of our students complete at least one independent study course, research, or creative project.
The result: Knox students are active, independent learners who learn to set their own paths and define their educational goals-practices of the mind that empower you for the rest of your life.
