"I have been working with a local business group and another Knox student on an idea to stimulate entrepreneurship in Galesburg."

What are your interests and hobbies?

Photography, drawing, graphic design... Love all of that. On the other side there is PR and business thinking that I really like.

How did you learn about Knox?
Through the Fulbright Center in Amsterdam.

Since you came to Knox, how have you changed?
I really broadened my horizons. I talk to people I would have never talked to at home, befriend them, and explore their interests. At the same time, I have found more interests of my own, like PR and photography, which these days are my main activity.

Have you done any volunteering/community service during your time at Knox?
I have been part of some fundraising initiatives and helped with Knox's 175th birthday. More recently I have been working with a local business group and another Knox student on an idea to stimulate entrepreneurship in Galesburg. However, this idea is still very young and undeveloped, so I can't say too much about it yet.

How would you describe academic life at Knox?
Demanding but rewarding. Stimulating.

Is there a professor who has had a significant impact on your education/research/career plans?
Professor Gail Ferguson. She taught me the importance of personalized psychology, and John Spittell, who just fast tracked me for a career in business. I have yet to make a decision on which passion is stronger.

What is your favorite place on campus? Off campus?
On campus: the Library, campus lawns, Mac labs, dark rooms, and the PR office. Off campus: My new house, the Beanhive, and the Seacord House.

Lotte Vonk and two other students developed the slogan for the 175th anniversary of Knox College and GalesburgTell us about a memorable class, experience, professor, assignment and what you learned from it?
Two other students and I got involved with developing the slogan for the 175th anniversary of Knox and Galesburg. Our pitch was accepted, and the slogan was used on all official material and is even featured on banners that were placed all over campus. That was such a proud moment. After that we got involved with other aspects of the anniversary as well, and I felt extremely connected to the town and the College.

Any advice for high school students on their college search?
Make sure you feel like you can make the place your home. Look beyond curriculum and academic reputation. Look for a campus atmosphere that suits you. You will spend so much time on campus, with the people that go there. It has to feel
good.
