How did you learn about this opportunity?
I’ve always wanted to study abroad in France; it was one of my dreams. Professor Akuetey encouraged me to study in France while I was taking French with him. He is a nice professor who takes away my fears about learning another language and culture.
In addition to Professor Akuetey, what inspired you to study abroad?
Students at Knox have many chances to communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds. I’ve met many friends at Knox from other countries, which was definitely a drive for me to discover other countries and cultures. I was also encouraged to study abroad after seeing so many Knox students who participated in different kinds of off-campus studies. However, as an international student at Knox, I have to keep reminding myself that studying abroad in the U.S. is the start of my journey.
What did you learn from your experience?
I feel lucky to have had the chance to speak French daily. By staying with a French family in Paris, I got to know the French culture deeper and broader. I initially thought that I wouldn’t like Paris, but I ended up falling in love with it; I love the food, architecture, and fashion. It was also nice to take interesting classes with students from other colleges. For example, I explored Champagne with classmates and professors as a required field trip for my Luxury Brand Management class. I learned about the production process of champagne and studied different marketing strategies used by some major champagne brands. I also realized that the education I received at Knox is really important and special to me. Knox is where my interests could be developed and my dreams could come true.
