Looking Forward to Orientation 2013
We're already making plans for your arrival in September and the preparations are well underway! A talent show, magician/comedian, improv performance, bike-in movie -- these are just a few of the fun things to look forward to when you get here.
Orientation is designed to welcome you to campus and introduce you to the larger Knox community, which is why we call it "One Community: Orientation 2013." Not only will you get to know your classmates, you'll meet faculty and staff, explore campus, and learn more about how to make the most of your Knox educational experience. View the sample New Student Orientation schedule.
Other activities to look forward to -- aside from meeting your suite-mates and actually moving into your new residence -- include opportunities to explore Galesburg, like bike excursions through the city and a local food tour. There will also be a Day of Service before classes begin, where you will join your classmates to spend a few hours helping one of our community partners. Afterward, everyone will return to campus for Pumphandle, a Knox tradition since 1885, where you will have the chance to shake the hands of students, faculty, and staff, followed by an all-campus picnic.
As a supplement to New Student Orientation, there are special activities planned for international, multicultural, and non-traditional students, as well as events specifically designed for friends and family who accompany you to Knox.
International Student Orientation -- September 4-6
International Student Orientation will help you with any visa concerns you may have and introduce you to the campus resources available to make the transition to living and studying in the United States as smooth as possible. Meet your international advisor, get a tour of downtown, and more before other new students arrive on campus. View the tentative International Student Orientation schedule. Questions? Contact Josh Ferchau.
Multicultural Student Orientation -- September 4-6
Multicultural Student Orientation will give you an opportunity to learn about the diverse Knox community and the various resources available to multicultural students. Please contact Tianna Cervantez, director of multicultural student advisement, to make your reservation for Multicultural Student Orientation or with any questions you may have. View the tentative Multicultural Student Orientation schedule.
Non-Traditional Student Orientation -- September 6
Are you a non-traditional Knox student? If you're older than the traditional college student, live locally and commute to Knox, are married, or beginning a career transition, you bring unique insight into the classroom. We've scheduled special events to welcome you to campus. View the tentative Non-Traditional Student Orientation schedule.
Family and Friends Orientation -- September 7
While many events and activities have been planned for new students, we know this is also a special time for family and friends as they accompany you to campus. We have planned a number of events where they can learn more about life at Knox and meet other new Knox families. View the tentative Family and Friends Orientation schedule.
