Living at Knox
As you prepare for your move to campus, you will probably pack your favorite shirt and most comfortable jeans and maybe a refrigerator, microwave, and fan. Check out our packing list for other things to think about as you prepare for your journey to campus in September.
Along with all the necessities, don't forget the personal items that remind you of home and will make your space on campus your own. Whether it's a collage of photos of friends and family, mementos from high school, or a favorite stuffed friend who's been with you as long as you can remember, the place where you live needs to be more than four walls, a bed, and a desk. We want Knox to feel like home.
Get Involved on Campus and in the Community
There's always something going on at Knox, and it's the students who make it happen. Knox has more than 100 student clubs and organizations. Some focus on academic disciplines, such as chemistry or physics. Others, like Common Ground, Model United Nations, and Allied Blacks for Liberty and Equality, focus on identity, culture, and politics. Our 18 music, dance, and performance ensembles provide a creative outlet. And club and intramural sports like ultimate frisbee and water polo provide an outlet for athletic energy. The one quality that binds our clubs and organizations together is that they are all student driven.
Make sure to stop by the Carnival of Clubs during Orientation, where you'll get the chance to talk to club leaders and learn about the many different ways you can get involved. Before then, you can take a survey of the activities that interest you. We'll pass your name on to club leaders so they can let you know how to jump-start your involvement on campus.
Get Your Computer Ready for Knox
One of the first things you will probably want to do when you arrive on campus is use your computer. To make that possible, there are some simple steps you can take before you arrive to prepare your computer for the Knox network. Find computer requirements, download links for our required antivirus software, learn how to update your computer with required critical updates, and more on our new computer user webpage.
Knox has an Information Technology Services Help Desk devoted to creating an easy-to-use and welcoming computing atmosphere for all students. If you need assistance, Help Desk hours for summer are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CST. Submit questions online to email@example.com or call 309-341-7700.
You received your e-mail address, along with login and password information, with your housing letter last month. If you have questions about your e-mail, contact the Help Desk. Be sure to check your e-mail periodically even before you arrive on campus to receive information from the College.
Please remember to never e-mail your user name and password to anyone. We will never ask you to do so. It is likely that you will receive “phishing” attempts (attempts to collect your username and password). Don’t be fooled. If ever in doubt, contact the Help Desk.
