We encourage students, faculty, staff, and alumni to take advantage of social media platforms to stay connected. The following guidelines help to establish procedures for using and maintaining various social channels to engage with the Knox community and external audiences. As online interactions are becoming as prevalent as face-to-face interactions, it is equally important to ensure they are marked by the same level of respect and professionalism as expected in the Knox community.

To use social media as a representative of Knox, it’s important to determine the following:

  • What is your goal for the social media platform you selected?
  • What type of content do you plan to share?
  • Who is your audience?

For help with these questions or to discuss in more detail, please contact the social media manager at or 309-341-7717. View the Facebook guidelines and YouTube guidelines if you're specifically interested in those platforms.

Official Knox College Social Media Accounts

View Knox's official Facebook page. Facebook allows the posting of photos, videos, links, and text by administrators of a page/group and its fans or members. Depending on page/group permissions, it may be more private and personal than Twitter.

Follow us on Twitter. Our accounts include @KnoxCollege1837 for general updates and @Knox_Pix for photos. Twitter permits members to make updates under 140 characters, "retweet" others' posts, use hashtags, and share photos/links to other web pages.

Follow us on Instragram @KnoxCollege1837.   Instagram provides an impromptu look at life on at Knox College through images and videos submitted both Communications staff and other members of the Knox community.

Visit the Knox Flickr site to view photos of events, student research, athletics, study abroad programs, sustainability initiatives, and more. Flickr's purpose is to share photos, which can be organized into collections and sets.

Check out Knox's YouTube channel, which includes playlists featuring Commencement, campus traditions, academic opportunities, campus life, and more. YouTube is for posting videos, which can be commented upon, liked, and even replied to with video responses.
