Your campus computer is being scanned periodically to verify that it is in compliance with Knox College computer network security policies. This scan checks for an updated copy of the Sophos anti-virus softwre and any critical patches or updates to your system software (PC or Mac).
If all updates are current your computer/network access will not be affected. If your computer is found to be out of compliance it is immediately directed to the remediation network, where it will have access only to sites to download the proper Sophos and system software updates. Once the necessary updates are applied the computer will need to be re-scanned and found to be safe before it will be allowed full access to the Knox network. Click the Re-Scan button to check your updates and get back onto the network.
Bradford scanning is performed on a regular basis so be sure to keep your computer up to date. If you want to conserve energy, leave your computer turned on Tuesday and Wednesday nights as this is when most updates are released. Then check periodically to see if you have missed any. If you choose to leave your computer on all of the time please restart occasionally.
You can check for and install required updates at any time. The update process can take some time and may also require several reboots. For this reason, it may take multiple sessions of updating. You may want to start them at the end of your work day or before your lunch break. Your computer will need to remain on.
To protect your Windows PC while it is left on you may "lock it" by clicking the control-alt-delete keys simultaneously and then click lock computer. To unlock your computer you will again use the control-alt-delete keys and enter your password.
