Direct Economic Impact

  • Students Enjoy Coffee at InnkeepersWith an annual payroll of about $21 million, Knox employs 342 full-time and 113 part-time faculty and staff. Nearly 85% of employees live in the Galesburg area.

  • More than 80% of all Knox students work on campus or in local businesses.
    • Knox’s student payroll is about $1.29 million.

  • Knox’s annual budget for goods and services is more than $14 million. Much of that is contracted with West Central Illinois businesses (including Peoria).
    • Knox brings in more than $4 million in annual contributions from outside this area.
    • Knox has completed nearly $15 million in renovation, construction, and other capital projects over the past five years. More than 80% (12 million) of those projects used Galesburg area contractors and workers.

  • The Federation of Independent Illinois Colleges and Universities estimates Knox makes a direct economic impact on Galesburg of $45,398,189.

    Commencement 2013
  • Knox attracts thousands of visitors to Galesburg each year for Homecoming, Commencement, Family and Friends Weekend, Admission Open Houses, and other campus activities.
    • Homecoming brings in over 1,100 alumni and guests to the Galesburg area.
    • Commencement is attended by more than 2000 visitors.

  • Visitor spending in Galesburg and the local area is estimated to be about $1,946,761.

  • Knox promotes the community to prospective students and their families, college counselors, and alumni.
    • More than 2,000 prospective students and families visited campus between September 2012 and August 2013.

  • Nearly 1,000 Knox alumni live in the Galesburg area.
