Support can mean different things to different people, but the goal is to provide survivors of sexual misconduct with options and a variety of supportive resources.
There are people on campus and in the community who are trained to help you cope with the experience and examine your options. Sexual assault is never the survivor’s fault.
A Victim Services Advocate from Western Illinois Regional Council (WIRC) Survivor Victim Services, a community action agency, can be reached through a 24-hour crisis line at 309-837-5555. The advocate can meet a victim at the hospital to serve as a personal link between the hospital, local law enforcement, and their legal advocacy staff. The person can help a survivor understand the choices and rights afforded to her/him during the medical examination and beyond.
Knox College Health and Counseling Center is a confidential resource on campus. Counselors and medical personnel can provide emotional and medical support in a safe and confidential space. They are not required to disclose your identifying information as they have professional obligations to maintain the confidentiality of their clients. They can also help you think through your options for filing a formal report. Call 309-341-7492 to schedule an appointment.
Survivors may also seek support at these confidential resources:
