Course Preferencing

You will meet with your faculty advisor during orientation to discuss your preferences and educational plans and to finalize your course selections. At that meeting, you will be able to change classes or add one (if you still do not have a schedule with three courses).

Before you fill out and return the Course Preference Form (PDF), please read through the other materials included in the Class Knox mailing and the resources referenced in the mailing and on this page. These resources provide some good advice about how to approach your educational experience at Knox.

First Year Preceptorial
Students must pass the interdisciplinary First-Year Preceptorial in the first term of the first year. Students who enter in the winter or spring and who are classified as first-year students must also pass First-Year Preceptorial. International students entering as first-year students may defer the Preceptorial until the fall of the sophomore year.

  • First-year students will all take PREC 100 (First-Year Preceptorial). There are multiple offerings of the class and we will fit you into a section based on the scheduling of your other two classes. It will be helpful if you would list your desired other two classes in the order of preference, and provide at least one alternate selection.
  • Transfer Students (those with at least one year of attendance at another college) should select at least three courses, again with an alternate selection. This will help us maximize the chance that you will get into your most preferred courses.
  • Entering students with at least one year of credit of full-time study on a college campus are not required to take First-Year Preceptorial. However, they must do one of the following: (1) choose to take FP, or (2) complete an additional Writing Intensive course and an additional designated Diversity course.
