Knox College

Your Housing Lottery Number

It's a simple equation: Lottery Category + Random Number = Lottery Number

Step 1: Lottery Category

Your placement in a lottery category is based on your expected date of graduation. This is determined by looking at your progress toward a Knox degree.

Not everyone will be given a lottery category this spring. Students on full-year off campus programs for the 2013-2014 academic year, those we believe will graduate, those in special interest housing, and those already granted off campus status will not be given a lottery category. If you do not have a lottery category posted, you will not get a lottery number. It is your responsibility to notify us based on the time line below if you need a number.

It's also important for you to check your category placement and notify us of any changes you feel need to be made. Once we move on to the next step, there's no going back!

Step 2: Random Number

Your random number is a computer-generated decimal that determines your placement within your lottery category. Random numbers cannot be altered once they are created. Students with the best random numbers receive the best (lowest) lottery numbers in their category. Check your category, please!

To ensure accuracy, the generation of lottery numbers follows this process:

March 27 Lottery categories posted
March 29 Last day to petition the Campus Life Office for a category change if yours was incorrect. Deadline is 4:00 p.m.
April 1 Lottery numbers posted

If you feel your category is incorrect, submit the Lottery Category Change Request Form.

Remember: Your lottery number affects most of your possible housing options, such as Singles, Small Houses, Apartments, Block Housing, and General Lottery. The selection processes for Theme Houses, Greek Houses, International House, Casa Latina, Asian Cultural, and ABLE don't have anything to do with your lottery number.
