Student Printer Billing FAQ

Costs & Billing

How many free pages do I get a term?
You get $15 of free pages per term with each black-and-white page costing 5 cents and each color page costing 25 cents. Note that each printed side of a page counts as a separate print.

If I don't use all my free pages this term do they carry over to next term?
No, they go away when the term ends.

How do I monitor by printer usage and fees?
Each week we will send out an email summary of where you are for the term. The statements look something like this:

Or if you have free pages remaining…

The first three lines, in red, show the free pages allocated and any previous printing; the next three, in blue, show any adjustments for damaged printing or charge-backs to other groups; the two dated lines below that, in green, show the actual printing done during the week, and the bottom line will either show the amount that will be billed, or the number of free pages remaining for the term. And no, the real statements are not color coded.

The charges will be recalculated each week, so if there are adjustments made or additional free pages added the amount posted to the bill may be negative.

I work in an office and print for them. How do I get reimbursed?
If you logged in under your own name and printed to a public printer then keep track of the number of pages you printed for the office or department and have them submit a reimbursement request on the web. The credit will show on your weekly statement. If you print to an office printer or the computer is signed on with a departmental login (only a few areas have one) then you will not be charged for those pages.

I print large jobs for my club/sorority/fraternity/… - how do I get reimbursed?
Cindy Wickliffe can charge print copies to your club - the appropriate officer will have to authorize it with Cindy.

I have an honors project that will require a lot of printing.
Talk to Lori Haslem, Associate Dean of the College. She can credit you with additional pages for your project.

I have a course with massive assignments.
This is between you and your instructor and the department.

I print a lot.
Print less. Edit on line rather than on paper. Use "Print Preview" to check margins and spacing rather than printing. For drafts, only print the pages you've changed. One of the goals of this is to reduce paper consumption, not just to use recycled paper.

What happens if my print job doesn't print or comes out streaked?
Report it to the Lab Assistant. You'll need to give them your login, ID number, the time the job printed, and the number of pages. If you reprinted it let them know.

What's a "public printer"?
Printers in public areas - like computer labs or hallways - are public: anyone printing to them will be charged directly for the pages printed. A "departmental printer" is inside an administrative office or other location where the only people printing to the printer are those working in the area. For example, the printer on 2nd floor Old Main is public. The printer inside the business office is a departmental printer.
