Wireless Configuration
Windows XP
To access the Knox Wireless network with a Windows PC, your computer needs to meet the following requirements:
- Operating System: Running the latest version with updates for: Windows XP.
See instructions for updating your system.
- Anti-Virus: Running the latest Sophos Anti-Virus package.
- Network Card or Adapter: Your computer must have a wireless network card that supports the 802.11g, and/or 802.11n protocol(s), the WiFi Protected Access (WPA), and Microsoft's Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) service. Your card also needs to have the latest drivers installed.

Accessing the Knox Wireless network
- Click on the Start button, scroll up to Settings and select Control Panel
Double-click on Network Connection

- In the list that appears, one will be labeled Wireless Network Connection
Right click on Wireless Network Connection and click Properties

Select the Wireless Networks tab
Check Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings
Under Preferred Networks:
Click Advanced

The Advanced window appears (pictured)
Under Networks to Access:
Check radio button for Access point (infrastructure) networks only
Un-check all other options
Click Close

- Back on the Wireless Network Connection Properties window (pictured)
If Knox-Wireless Automatic appears (as pictured), select it and click Properties
If it does not appear, click Add

Make sure the Association tab is selected (pictured)
Configure the following settings:
Under Wireless Network Key:
Network Authentication: Choose WPA2 If this is not available, select WPA
Data Encryption: Choose AES If this is not available, select TKIP

Still on the Wireless Network Properties window, select the Authentication tab (pictured)
Update the following settings (as pictured):
Check Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network
EAP type: Choose Protected EAP (PEAP)
Click Properties

The Protected EAP Properties window appears (pictured)
Configure the following settings (as pictured):
Un-check Validate server certificate
Under Select Authentication Method:
Choose Secured Password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
Check Enable Fast Reconnect
Click Configure

On the EAP MSCHAP v2 Properties window (pictured):
Under When Connecting:
Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (pictured)
Click OK
- Close ALL open windows to save your wireless configuration. If this is the first time this computer has connected to the Knox network, your next step will be to register your computer. See the Registering Your Computer (Windows) Documentation for assistance.
