When you first access the Knox network by connecting to the Internet on campus, you will be prompted to register your computer. This will also check your computer for compliance with anti-virus installation and any required operating system updates.
Before you can complete these steps, you will need to configure your wireless settings. Refer to the "Windows Wireless Configuration" Documentation.
If you need additional assistance, call the Help Desk at ext. 7700.

What is the Bradford Persistent Agent?
The Bradford Agent is a small application used to register your machine on campus and to make sure your computer is up to date with Windows and Anti-virus Updates. |

Bradford first checks to see you have all your Windows Updates. (If you do, this step will be skipped.)
Find Windows Update by clicking on Start and typing "Windows Update" into the search box.
In the Windows Update window, select all updates labeled as "Important". Then click the Install Updates button.
After you have updated, or if there does not appear there are any updates, click the Check for Updates link in the top left corner of the window and install any new updates your computer finds.
After there are no more updates, return to your Web browser and click the Rescan button (See Figure 7).
After Windows Updates, Bradford checks for Sophos Installation and Sophos Updates.
Click any one of the Sophos Links and look for and click Student Installer. You will be prompted for your Knox username and password again. After, you will be taken to Sophos Download Page (Figure 5).
Click the file ending with .exe (circled). Choose where to save the file, then run it.

The installation has finished when a grey shield appears in your system tray. Sophos will then ask that you restart your computer.
Right click on the blue Sophos Shield and select Update Now. You can click View updating status to see if any updates are being downloaded.
After Sophos has been updated, return your Web browser and click the Rescan button.
What is Sophos Anti-Virus?
Sophos is an Anti-Virus Program provided by Knox and required on all computers connected to the network. By right clicking on the Sophos shield, you can access Sophos Endpoint Security and Control. Here you can arrange to scan your computer and manage Quarantine items. A blue Sophos shield indicates that Sophos is working correctly. If the shield turns grey for long periods of time, then Sophos protection has been disabled. If that happens, contact the Help Desk. |

After updating Windows, and installing and updating Sophos, be sure to hit the Rescan button. If you have all required updates, your computer will pass and your network will be reconfigured again. You will be asked to restart your computer one more time.
Congrats! You have successfully registered your computer for use on campus!

My computer has been moved into Remediation. What is that?
Bradford periodically checks to make sure that your computer is up to date. If Bradford notices something is not up to date, your computer will be moved into Remediation. In Remediation, opening a Web browser and navigating to any site will forward you to a page informing you whether it was Windows or Sophos that was out of date. After you update, return to your Web browser and click the Rescan button as seen in Figure 7. If you are no longer missing any updates, Bradford will pass your computer and you'll be moved back on the regular network. |
