Social Impact and Community Investment

Knox students, faculty and staff volunteer and contribute to nearly 100 different service, civic, and community organizations in the Galesburg area, from Big Brothers/Big Sisters to the Literacy Coalition, from Safe Harbor to the United Way.
Last year, students contributed more than 16,000 volunteer hours in the Galesburg area.
- These student volunteer hours amount to over $136,000 in monetary value.
Last year, Knox students interned at more than 50 different organizations in this area, including OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg Clinic, National Railroad Hall of Fame, City of Galesburg Economic Development Division, The Orpheum Theatre, Safe Harbor and Azer Clinic.

The George Washington Gale Scholars program is a direct investment in local students. Consistent with Knox's mission, the GW Gale Scholars program prepares Galesburg area low-income and first generation college students for success in college -- and life. Twelve Gale Scholars are currently enrolled at Knox College.
- Recent Gale Scholars are pursuing graduate degrees, including in business, educational administration, public health and sociology.
- Graduated Gale Scholar Chris Carpenter is currently a seventh grade life science teacher at Lombard Junior High School, where he has the opportunity to select the next generation of Gale Scholars.
Currently, 46 Knox students are from Galesburg, Knoxville, Abingdon and ROWVA high schools.
The Western Illinois Achievers Scholarships help students from 77 high schools in a 12-county area around Galesburg get a Knox education.
