Jonathan Ng '14

Sr. Specialist, Technical Process/Quality at AT&T

Major in Economics, minors in math and physics

Jonathan combined a liberal arts degree and engineering degree through Knox's 3-2 engineering program.

Jonathan Ng is a student at Washington University St. Louis

Through Knox's 3-2 dual degree engineering program, Jonathan attended Knox for three years to complete a major in economics and minors in math and physics, followed by two years at Washington University in St. Louis, where he received a B.S. in systems engineering with a minor in electrical engineering.

As an international student, what drew you to Knox?

I chose Knox because of the dual degree program, and because of the idea that a small school would mean getting more attention, especially from the professors. I knew that spending five years getting two degrees would open up a lot of opportunities for me, and the personalized attention would help keep me on track with academics. One other thing that helped with my decision was the chance to play tennis at the college level, and I'm glad that I did.

You were co-captain of the tennis team and MVP of the season. How did you balance academics and sports?

Some weekends were definitely harder than others, for sure, but Knox was very cooperative with my academic schedule. Playing at a DIII school was very good, because the school recognizes that academics hold priority over athletics, which I appreciated.

Why did you choose the 3-2 program in pursuit of your engineering degree?

When I applied to college, I got admitted into engineering schools, including Purdue and Texas A&M. However, I knew that I wanted to focus on something more than just a technical major, and the 3-2 program offered something right along those lines. They also have good connections with extremely competitive schools.
