During the academic year, many Knox students build their writing and publishing skills through their work on campus publications. This summer, they're taking those skills to work at internships and residencies across the country.

Here are just a few students who have found ways to further their education in professional settings:

Casey Mendoza '16, co-editor-in-chief of The Knox Student, Knox's award-winning student newspaper, is working as a corporate communications intern for Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) in Arlington, Virginia. Her chief responsibility is the production of a documentary on airline reservation technology.

"When I come back to Knox in the fall, I plan on utilizing all that I've learned about documentary film for TKS," said Mendoza. "I want to work on increasing the multimedia capabilities of the paper with regular short-form video content."

Holden Meier '16, co-coordinator of Knox's new play development series, Playground, is spending his summer as a literary intern at the award-winning Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center in Waterford, Connecticut. Meier credits his work with Playground as essential in helping him land this competitive internship.

"The O'Neill has provided me with amazing opportunities to meet experienced and soon-to-be-stars in the field (playwriting) I hope to make a career in, a field in which networking can be everything," said Meier, whose internship was supported by the Hirsch-Zucker Fund.

Carmen Ribaudo '16, former editor-in-chief of Cellar Door, is spending her summer as an editorial intern at Scholastic Corporation in New York, New York. She is working for the imprints of Orchard Books, Cartwheel Books, and Scholastic Picture Books. (Ribaudo is pictured above.)

"One of the reasons I am enjoying children's publishing so much is that it combines my interests in the visual and the written," said Ribaudo, who is a double-major in psychology and studio art.

Other students with summer experiences in literary management, writing, and publishing include:

• Nicole Baldino '15, former creative nonfiction editor of Catch, a fellow at Bucknell Seminar for Younger Poets in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
• Kate Mishkin '16, co-editor-in-chief of The Knox Student, a reporting intern at the Virginian-Pilot in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
• Niki Acton '16, former drama editor of Catch and co-coordinator of Playground, an emerging artist fellow at Grin City Collective in Grinnell, Iowa.
• Kiannah Sepeda-Miller '16,  associate news editor of The Knox Student, a print editorial intern at New York Magazine in New York, New York. (Supported by Richter Fund.)
• Michelle Secunda '16, a literary intern at Manhattan Theater Club in New York, New York.
• Stephenie Nikitenko '17, an intern at Illinois Women's Press Association in Chicago, Illinois.
