Six Things Not to Miss at Homecoming 2016

Alumni and fans cheer on the Prairie Fire football team during Homecoming 2015.

Knox College welcomes alumni back to campus during its 2016 Homecoming celebration October 14-16. Check out the full Homecoming schedule.

You can share your photos with the entire Knox community on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram by using the hashtag #KnoxHC.

Here are a few highlights that you won't want to miss.

1. Meet the new Prairie Fire mascot.
Knox unveiled its new mascot, the Prairie Fire fox, at this year's Pumphandle. Now, following a campus-wide vote to choose its name, students and alumni will meet the mascot in person on Friday at 8:30 p.m. Come to Memorial Gym early for games and giveaways!

2. Explore the Whitcomb Art Center.
Immediately following the Homecoming dinner for alumni, faculty, and staff on Saturday evening, there will be a dessert and champagne reception at the new Whitcomb Art Center, near the corner of Prairie and South Streets. Tour the building, which opens for classes in winter 2017, and chat with art and art history faculty and students. Reservations are requested.

3. Find out if the Prairie Fire women's soccer team can post another shutout win.
As of this writing, the women's soccer team has scored 56 goals this season and given up only two (their overall record is 13-0-1). They face off against rival Lake Forest Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Jorge Prats Field. The men's team, currently 10-3-1 following an eight-game winning streak, will play Lake Forest at 1 p.m. (There's even more soccer action on Sunday afternoon as the Prairie Fire face Ripon College, starting at 1 p.m.)

4. Sit in on Advanced Acting: Shakespeare & Beyond or any of 28 other classes.
Find out how a Knox education has changed—and how it hasn't—since you were an undergraduate. Choose from courses in philosophy, economics, computer science, journalism, religious studies, and more. See a full list of classes.

5. Sign up for the Mary Filosa Brown '82 Memorial 5K Walk/Run.
Mary Filosa Brown '82 was a member of the Knox cross-country team, a qualifying participant in the Boston Marathon, and a lifelong athlete. Help celebrate her life and spirit, and join us afterward as her husband, Rick Brown '83, presents a check from the the Mary Filosa Brown Memorial Fund for Community Service to the Kleine Center for Community Service.

6. Say hello to old friends, and make some new ones.
Of course, you'll be joining your classmates at your Friday night meet-and-greet, dinner on Saturday, and brunch on Sunday morning. But you can also sit down for coffee in the Gizmo with Professor Robin Metz. Celebrate the 150th anniversary of FIJI. Wish longtime Knox employee Pinky Gibbons a happy retirement. Rub elbows with Knox's Hall of Fame athletes at the annual induction ceremony. And connect with generations of black alumni at the Black Alumni Network (BAN) networking reception. See the full list of Homecoming 2016 attendees.
