Five Things to Look Forward to at Knox's 2015 Homecoming

Homecoming

Knox College will celebrate its 2015 Homecoming on October 16-18, welcoming alumni back to campus for Reunion dinners, a 5K walk/run, and other festivities.

Check out a full Homecoming schedule and share your photos with members of the Knox community on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram by using the hashtag #KnoxHC.

Here's a rundown of five top things about this year's Knox Homecoming.

1. The Hoot Hoots.

Catch the Seattle power pop band, which features alumni Christina Ellis '05 and Adam Prairie '05 along with Chris Prairie and Ben Lewis, at 9 p.m. Saturday in Fat Fish Pub, 158 North Broad Street. This is what Seattle Weekly says about The Hoot Hoots: "While the group's fun-loving, reverential spirit keeps them orbiting their influences, their high-energy songbook captures the essence of goof-pop with upbeat, irrepressible glee."

2. The Homecoming football game.

The Prairie Fire take on Cornell at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Knosher Bowl. Make sure to watch the halftime festivities, where 2015 Knox-Lombard Athletic Hall of Fame inductees Elizabeth Grana '06, coach Al Partin, Jaran Rutledge '08, and the 1973 men's soccer team will be honored. And who knows? You might see a spectacular play like this now-famous catch by Prairie Fire wide receiver Ilir Emini '16.

3. The groundbreaking for the Whitcomb Art Building.

Check out the future home of the state-of-the-art Whitcomb Art Building, where a ceremonial groundbreaking will take place at 3:30 p.m. Friday near the southeast corner of Prairie and South streets. The Whitcomb Art Building, bolstered by a generous gift from Dick '57 and Joan Whitcomb '56, will include studios for painting, printmaking, design, sculpture, ceramics, drawing and digital art, as well as metalworking and woodworking shops. Find out more about the project, and take a look at the architectural drawings.

4. Faculty and friends.

Of course, one of the biggest attractions of any Homecoming weekend is the chance to visit with good friends, former classmates, and favorite professors. Two longtime Knox professors, Lane Sunderland and Jon Wagner, are hosting separate coffee events to spend time with alumni. Sunderland's gathering is at 3 p.m. Friday and Wagner's is at 1 p.m. Saturday.

There are plenty of other opportunities to socialize, too, including Homecoming Convocation at 10 a.m. Saturday, the alumni and faculty book-signing at 11 a.m. Saturday, fraternity and sorority open houses, Reunion dinners, and informal gatherings all around campus.

5. The memories you'll share.

Strolling around campus and reminiscing about your days as a Knox student is a great way to spend a weekend. Please share your photos and memories with us on social media—use the hashtag #KnoxHC.
