The Watoto Children's Choir of Kampala, Uganda, will perform a benefit concert at 7 p.m., Friday, November 5, in Kresge Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. The concert is free and open to the public.
The event is a fund raiser for the Watoto care program, which assists women and orphaned children who have been affected by war and disease in Uganda. Watoto was founded in Kampala in 1982 by missionaries Gary and Marilyn Skinner. In 1994 they founded the Watoto Children's Choir, which has performed worldwide.
The concert is sponsored by the Knox College student club Harambee.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 45 states and 48 countries. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
