Jason Pierceson '94 Chosen for Fulbright Scholar Fellowship

Jason PiercesonJason Pierceson '94, chairman of the political science department at the University of Illinois Springfield, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar fellowship to research the legal and political systems in Canada.

He will examine Canadian courts and the role they play in making public policy.

Pierceson, associate professor of political science and legal studies at UIS, earned a bachelor's degree in history from Knox College and a Ph.D. in politics from Brandeis University.

While at Knox, he was awarded College Honors in history. He also received the Hermann R. Muelder Prize in American Studies and the Szold Prize in History.

Pierceson's teaching and research focus on public law, legal and political issues relating to sexuality, and political theory. He wrote the book Courts, Liberalism, and Rights: Gay Law and Politics in the United States and Canada, published in 2005 by Temple University Press.
